Choppy audio at night getting worse.

Post by mattg3 »

Im connected to laptop usb on my condo wifi internet and for 5 months things were fine but few weeks ago all audio on calls is choppy and cant be figured out but my voice is fine.Tried eveything listed here from changing priority to high to long sessions with chat people and nothing works.
I have not tried changing proxy since Im not very computer savy and cant figure out how to do it.Can I change proxy on a wifi connection and do you think that would help.Im in Beverly Ma. and not sure what proxy Im on.
Since this seems to happen more at night perhaps it is heavy usage cutting down internet speeds on wifi.Cant tell using computer but speed test showed morning at 1129download.1120 upload and at night its 242 download and 301 upload and choppy audio is present. Thanks for input Matt

This is your second new thread on the same topic. You are at the mercy of all of the other residents of the apartment complex. If they all come home in the evening and start using their home PCs, your slice of the bandwidth pie will be that much thinner. The only way to ensure that you have bandwidth when you want it is to pay for it directly (subscribe to your own internet service).

You're probably facing a dual-front war - the loss of available bandwidth over your wireless connection (which BTW, will potentially be a problem even if everyone wasn't using it at night), and the local proxy loading which I also found to be worse in the evenings after 7pm. In forcing MJ to find another proxy (in my case, not NYC, not LA, not Miami), my voice quality and connection stability went up tremendously. Get yourself a dedicated wired connection and search this forum for instructions to block access to oversubscribed proxy servers.

No, as explained in your other thread, you have two independent problems. You have contention for limited resources within your apartment building. And, you have contention for limited resources within the MJ server you are homed to. Each of these problems has an independent solution.

To eliminate the contention within your apartment building (connection method, wired vs. wireless, is not a factor), you need to subscribe to your own private broadband internet service.

To possibly alleviate the contention for limited resources within the MJ server, you should read the threads that deal with how to force MJ to use a different server. The advice you choose will depend upon your PC environment.
