Can I use my MJ directly with my Router
I dont want to leave my computer on all the time. Is it possible for me to connect my MJ directly to a router. If so how, I would need detailed instructions...new to all this VOIP stuff.
Thanks a ton!

You need to answer some questions first before we can give you detailed instructions.
1. Does your router have an USB port?
2. Does your router run MS Windows XP/Vista/MacOS?
3. Does your router have audio capabilities?
4. Does your router have a video display?
5. What kind of keyboard is supplied with your router
6. How much HDD storage does your router have
7. Tell us how much RAM is included with your router
Please answer the above and the details for using it with your MJ will follow
Thank You PLEASE!!!
Good Luck

Re: why
Are you saying you somehow have Asterisk running in your FiOS Actiontec router?? If that's the case, a lot of us would like to hear how you accomplished that. Or are you saying that you have a Linux/FreeBSD/etc box running Asterisk on your internal LAN THROUGH your Actiontec router?kostkokid wrote:because that would be untrue. I am currently making magicjack calls with my actiontec router that came with my verizon FIOS install. It is running Asterisk 1.2 and my phone is connected to the rj11 jack on the back of the house. Great voice quality and all my phones get a dialtone.
Try it, you'll like it

I think the original poster was looking for a way to plug his MJ dongle directly into a router so that he didn't have to run his PC 24x7. Essentially the answer to his question is to get an unlocked ATA, obtain his MJ credentials, plug his phone(s) into said ATA, and not have to run his PC. This is functionally how Vonage works.

Pick up an HP thin client for about $80, connect it to your router via ethernet, connect your magicJack to the thin client and enjoy.

Yes that is exactly what I want but I have so less info on ATAs and SIPs and blah blah that i dont even know what keywords to search on
Wondering if you or anyone else could point me to some dummies guide to ATA, how to unlock them and mate the MJ with it.
I'll start by looking into ATAs also
Thanks guys for the help! So sorry to bog you geniuses with dumb questions
