Linksys WRTP54G firmware 3.1.17 problems....

Post by Stryker »

Okay, I am a newbie with this but I have a magic jack and I pulled the SIP info off of it. I am running an UNLOCKED Linksys WRTP54G at firmware 3.1.17 which I bought off fleabay. Now I followed the link http://www.phoneservicesupport.com/magi ... t5066.html
and did as the link showed for setting up but I couldn't get my magic jack SIP info to run using the WRTP54G wireless router. I either get "failed" or "not registered" under VOICE line 1 status. Anybody using this firmware version of 3.1.17 which is slightly different than the 5.1.6(LS) version. Any help would be appreciated.

Try firmware 3.1.27. Here is the link:

http://vap.earthlink.net/upgrade/wrtp54 ... 3.1.27.img

Also, make sure your LINE 1 proxy has the ":5070" at the end:

proxy1.<city>.talk4free.com:5070

Thanks for the link on the s/w. I would definitelylike to upgrade it and that might solve my problem. Yeah, I used the proxy1.<city>.talk4free:5070 and still get the "failed" on the registration on line 1 status. I know my Sip info is correct because my frined who has tried to help me get this up was able to use my Sip info on his and get it working right away. My question is now, how do I upgrade this since I can't force firmware upgrade on this WRTP54G cuz I am locked out of the administration page. I get "Please enter the password provided by service provider". I am sure there is alternate way to force the upgrade but would appreciate if you could shed some light on how to do this.

Kind of sounds like your VoIP router is still locked.
See the MagicJack Wiki (FAQ, How-To, history and more).

Thanks for the response. So if I can't get in with the default passwords then would this definitely mean that the router is locked? How else can tell if it is locked or unlocked other than the adminstration page lock out? Thanks.

Okay, got in....

Ok, was able to get into the admin page using user "Admin" and leaving password blank and just hitting log in. Got to the webpage so I could upload the firmware 3.1.27 but it gave me an error code. I am looking for 3.1.24 if you happen to have a link for this firmware. Thanks.

I tried to upgrade from my 3.1.17 and wasn't able to using the above links. Anyway, do I have to downgrade the software before I can upgrade to lets say 3.1.27 or the 5.1.04 firmware? Much appeciation from this newbie on you feedback.

Stryker, would you care to share what your problem was and how you solved it? This could be beneficial to others in the same boat.

Thanks

Yeah, no problem. It turns out that under "Proxy and Registration" in Line 1 settings I can't use "proxy01.<city>.talk4free.com:5070" and had to use the proxy IP instead.....mine being "xx.x.xxx.xx:5070". In the forums it states that you can use either one and it would work but for my case I had to use the proxy IP and other would not work (no dial tone). I am using Comcast cable. I did this same setup on two different routers, WRT54G and then WRP400 and it worked on both right away. I also setup another MJ number on line 2 and it worked perfectly using the same fix and no problems either. MrVile is the one who helped me out and the only changes on the router that I had to make once I did a full reset wer as follows from the c&p from MrVile:

<LINE 1>

NAT Keep Alive Enable: Yes

SIP Port: 5070

Proxy: xxx.xxx.xx.x:5070 (where xxx.xxx.xx.x = your SIP proxy IP)

Display Name: (enter whatever you want to show up as your caller ID. I just put my 10 digit phone number here.)

User ID: Exxxxxxxxxx01 (where xxxxxxxxxx = your phone number)

Password: (enter your password here)

Save the settings and check for dialtone.

Hope this helps you Comcast provider users.
