WIN 7 install
Confirmed, plugged MJ in and installed just like normal on WIN7 (7100), works GREAT!!
bah
Once I moved from build 7077 to 7100 my magicJack stopped working correctly. Now calls are horribly garbled. Not sure why. Still comes on out of the box, but calls are bad. Still works in my XP tho. Any help with that would be appreciatedm as I'm replacing XP once 7 comes out.
win7 rc and mj
Just downloaded win7 rc, and when I plugged in the majicjack, it downloaded new software, and works better than ever.
In fact, it out-performes Vista in regards to the MJ
No more scratchy reception on far end, and no more stutter/echo.
ot sure who did what, but great going!

Re: WIN 7 install
Also confirmed normal Plug-n-Play Windows 7 64bit (build 7100)Brenbro2 wrote:Confirmed, plugged MJ in and installed just like normal on WIN7 (7100), works GREAT!!
had a slight issue with first restart when left plugged in for reboot. it turned out to be a fluke. Now it runs absolutely no problems.

C:\Users\dbstv\appdata\Roaming\mjusbsp\magicjack.exe" /scf _magicJackPersonalDataRoot X:\magicJack
when i copy this I can not get it to load unless I change the X to C (X:\magicJack) the splash screen opens up the problem is my pc see the MJ as a unknown USB driver

stroths wrote:OK, I had to test this for myself and I got it to work. It requires two things.
1. Copy the mjusbsp folder from a working install on XP or Vista to the C:\Users\YourUserName\appdata\Roaming folder in Windows 7.
2. You have to start it the no splash way to get it to load. Otherwise, you will get an error that it's not plugged in.
"C:\Users\YourUserName\appdata\Roaming\mjusbsp\magicjack.exe" /scf _magicJackPersonalDataRoot X:\magicJack
Just substitute your username and your drive letter for X.
Keep in mind I installed Windows 7 on a vmware image as there is no way I am putting this beta on my real machine. I made a test call from the MJ to my cell phone. I also made a call from my cell phone to the magicjack. Both worked fine. The call was a little choppy at first, but was fine after that.
EDIT: Here's a pic of it. Click it for a very large version of the screenshot.
Re: It works on Windows 7
On Win7 RC, build 7100 I plugged the dongle in and nothing would load but the two "CDs" did show up. Nothing would start. Went to majicjack.com and did an upgrade from their site and things started loading and working. Did no other copying so it appears the new update is also aimed at Win7 in the future.dbstv wrote:C:\Users\dbstv\appdata\Roaming\mjusbsp\magicjack.exe" /scf _magicJackPersonalDataRoot X:\magicJack

K.I.S.S method
After four hours and two loptops running two seprate additions of XP; denying that my magic jack was a viable device! I never was able to get to that special folder the keeps being mentioned in this thread. I did not use the "splash screen" method, nor any of the mentioned ones.
I plugged it in, and THEN... I did what it asked and scanned & repaired the "malfunctioning" device.
Then, I went here: http://upgrades.magicjack.com/upgrade/upgrade.exe
I saved the upgrade, then ran it twice until it seemed to stick. I then did the thing most users do to make sure a program sticks in windows, I restarted. Next, I ran it a third time and, it then stuck. It started with no red lettering included.
I did the cell phone test to be sure (both ways) and called a family member to make sure I was not crazy and only thinking it worked. In three years of networking classes, and two of being on a robotics team, I still use the K.I.S.S (keep it simple stupid) method.
When all else fails, revert to basic troubleshooting.

well i just copied the mjusbps folder from my xp machine and followed step 1 copying it into the apps folder in windows 7 and was able to make calls right away. the phone does not start with splash, and i did not attempt to disable that in anyway. i start it by clicking on the desk top short cut. call quality has definitely improved from xp machine..

Magic Jack and Windows 7
After installing Win 7 - Magic Jack was "awful". I have been a MagicJack supporter for some time. Great deal of echo.
Here's what I did.
1. Right Click on Sound/Volume Icon at bottom of screen (right side)
2. Click on "Playback" devices
3. You should see Handset usb device.
4.Highlight and then click properties.
5. Click Advanced tab and you will see default format. Be sure that this is set for "telephone" quality and NOT tape recorder quality.
6. Save and that's it. Magic Jack is working great.
I just love my "LITTLE BUNDLE OF JOY"

Yes, Magicjack works perfectly with Window 7.
You can download the upgrade for window 7 from the given link.
http://upgrades.talk4free.com/tools/magicJackUpdate.exe
If you get warning or error broken storage then format magicjack's removable drive Computer and run the upgrade from the above link without unplugging.

I can get the MJ to work on Windows 7 Professional, but it has a ton of dropouts. Worked just fine on XP, but on Windows 7 it's been giving me nothing but problems.
I have to run it the "manual" way with the command line values. I tried to update the MJ with the magicjackupdate.exe file, but it keeps saying that the MJ is not plugged in.
Any suggestions?

Just plugged it in on my W7 professional system and it is working fine. Better sound quality so far (with computer otherwise idle) than what I had on the same computer when it was running XP. I did notice a slight delay when each party started speaking, seems more noticable than before, but much less static and audio breaking out and in.

Enable the Service "QWAVE" youll be VERY much more good to go, LOLb3wh169 wrote:Just plugged it in on my W7 professional system and it is working fine. MagicJack Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit
So I had the shitty quality/poor volume problem for a long time.. until i figured it out..
Not through the million MJ fixes / forum posts.. but from good ol' troubleshooting...
So I will try to make it somewhat easier on you who can't get it to work on w7x64. tags.. fix. broken. low volume. bad sound. poor quality. static. noise. (had to =p)
My computer was completely set up. Perfect fresh install. All drivers set.
Same with yours, right? MJ still not working?
MY fix was to install audio drivers. Win7 automatically installed the newest ones, sounds PERFECT with no problems/no updates found. I, out of a last attempt to fix MJ's problem, downloaded the drivers to my built it sound card, just because.. It wasn't going to work.. i knew it was a waste of time.. BUT it did. I don't know how. But installing the Realtek drivers, my problem ceased to exist. IDK how. Just did. Can't explain why.. but it did...
So if you KNOW your audio drivers are up to date... just Google them and install again. Trust me. You know its not going to work, but it might, like in my case.
Also try these simple fixes...

Call 909-390-0003 in MagicJack to hear yourself talk. Its a great way to troubleshoot problems on the other's end.
WinKey+PauseBreak[Fn]>Device Manager>Check problematic drivers
Update MagicJack OR uninstall/reinstall MagicJack
I hope some of this gives people some insight.
I basically just compiled a bunch of stuff I remember trying to do.
Good Luck!
