T5710 thin client and wireless router question

I just received and hooked up a T5710 thin client and MJ. It works fine connected to the ethernet cable direct from my cable modem. It doesn't get the internet when I connect it direct to one of my router ethernet ports. That works fine with my laptop, so why not with the thin client? What am I missing? Router is a TrendnetTEW452BRP.

Sounds like some of your ports are being blocked in the router. Try assigning the T5710 fixed IP and placing it in the DMZ of your router.

Thanks for the information. I dug into the setup on my router and I had designated only a few specific MAC addresses that could access it. I had failed to add the MAC address for the TC. As soon as I added it all worked just fine. Thanks again. I was just getting ready to send a note reporting what I found when I got notice of your note.

Never put a computer into the DMZ -- that puts it outside the hardwire firewall of the router and exposes it fully to the internet. There is no reason to do this if all you're doing is running an MJ.

While this is general good advice. Remember your talking about a TC which can simply be rebooted to remove any viruses etc. easily; and he was having a problem getting to the net.

Placing the TC in the DMZ is a quick way to eliminate any port issues in the router and if he had reported that doing that worked then I would have recommended further action. It effectively does the same thing that he had already done by plugging the TC directly into the modem; but with the router hardware in place.
