Before: MJ -----> telephone wall jack ----> Cordless Phone (Uniden CLX485) in another room .. everything worked except a little humming sometimes.
Now I switched to SPA2102 but the linksys manual states:
>>"IMPORTANT : Do not connect the Phone port to a telephone wall jack. Make sure you only connect a telephone or fax machine to the phone port. Otherwise, the Phone Adapter or the telephone wiring in your home or office may be damaged."<<
Can I connect the SPA2102 to a wall jack (just like before) or it will actually damage the wiring and the ATA ??? I guess I am asking how true that warning is ???
TIA!
SPA2102 question re: House Wiring

what it is alluding to is that you must disconnect the incoming line from the phone company from your house wiring at the "demarc point", because even though you may have terminated your landline service, there is still a signal/power coming in to your house wiring from the phone company and this can damage any device that tries to drive the house wiring.
there are easy-to-follow instructions on how to do this disconnection all over the Internet. it is the same procedure that would be required if you wanted your Vonage or other VOIP service to drive your house wiring. just Google "disconnect house phone wiring", or try this:
