formatting MJ

Post by svimagine »

In the last few days, perhaps since my last upgrade, MJ won't start. I get the "warning you must plug MJ into USB..." After spending some time online with tech support the only way it will work is by formatting & then running the update. I have to do this every time time I plug the mj in. My MJ has always worked well up until this problem. Any thoughts?

I have the same issue. I occasionally run the MJ on a laptop. If the laptop has been on for a while (hours) and I plug in the dongle, I get that message. If I plug it in right after booting, MJ works. Seems the USB port goes to sleep and the MJ dongle doesn't wake it up. It's a laptop so I don't want to adjust the power saving mode of the USB ports. So I either do the reformat trick or remember to plug in the MJ closer to boot-up.

I run MJ on two laptops, home & work, does it on both & doesn't matter if it is from boot or not. The formatting is a "work around" but is also a pain in the... I have also tried the suggestion in this chat http://phoneservicesupport.com/warning- ... t3208.html. it worked once also.

I got a new computer on the 9th and in process of upgrades I installed the .NET software. I have XP Home and suddenly I have new login screens with a password protected .NET user. I couldn't boot without trashing MJ. I had to format and restart MJ in order for it to work. I don't have any software relying on .NET so restored my computer. Voila everything's working normally. I don't know what the relationship is. It's something to try though.

Thanks for that I will give it a try. I have gotten so fed up with it I installed as a service. It works great every time with no dongle!!

For warning you must plug into USB :
Follow the following .
First of all , try to run recovery tool, You will get no device found after running recovery , please unplug and replug after 2 minutes. Even if you still get same warnng then change your magicjack drives name to X and Y. Remember there will be two drives one will be of 2 MB , you have to change it to X and other will be of 18 MB . Please change it to Y. You have to right click on My Computer icon and the select Manage from there . Please click on Disk Management and you will see 2 MJ drives there. If you do not fin them then keep opened your Disk Management and unplug your magicjack and replug into another port after two minutes. After changing drives name unplug your magicjack and restart your PC.

nothing seems to work so I will just use it dongleless. That seems to work great. MJ doesn't seem to give a sh** maybe the life of the hardware is only 8 months. All seemed to happen after an update. Hmmm
