My MJ is officially returned to store
I am officially MJ FREE!! MJ employees, I hope you're reading this. I bought the MJ 26 days ago so that I could have VOIP service on my PAP2. It was awesome. Worked great! Well then you blocked my PAP2 and I thought, well that sucks, I'll have to plug the dongle in. So thats what I did, and it worked pretty well. Except for the fact that my computer became completely unstable with the dongle in. It was slow, programs crashed, internet only worked intermittently. I could not figure out what the problem was. I rebooted several times and it remained unstable. Then I thought about the fact that it started screwing up soon after i plugged the magicjack in. So i unplugged it, rebooted, and now its back to perfect again! Magicjack sucks!
I also had a problem that about 25% of the time when i muted the sound on my computer, the magicjack volume would mute. So when people would call me, they could hear me but I couldnt hear them. So I would have to go into my computers sound settings and unmute the magicjack sound. This is not a problem that only I had. Others have reported this too. Actually I didnt know what the problem was at first and I contacted MJ tech support and they put me through about 1 hour of tech support trying to get my sound back and they couldnt figure it out. They even sent me to the 2nd tier of support because the person at the first tier gave up. The person on tier 2 ended the communication by telling me to buy a new phone because my phone was the problem. And then later I thought to myself...maybe theres a setting for MJ in my computers volume mixer. And sure enough, there was one in there and it was muted!
I say all this to say that I'm glad my MJ was less than 30 days old, because I have just returned it and got my $40+ back. I have also signed up for Sipgate, which has free incoming calls.
Bye Bye Magicjack.

Bye Bye Magicjack.
I just returned 2 mj back to bestbuy after 12 days got them for friends to use with atas.
nick
voip
I have been using voipvoip.com since mj went down with ata. it has cost me $6 plus about $ 4 for calls out incoming is free. i have my mj number calls going to voip number. works great so far varry easy to set up my ata box.
hehe, same here
I returned my MJ to RS last week, after around 28 days of usage.
Dan may think they did not lost much for this amount of returning. BUT, he does lost reputation - I will never suggest MJ to anybody, and if people ask me how MJ is, guess my answer.

I feel it is a good product but using a ata box didnot hurt them at all maybe help sell alot more product. I could see if they were selling a ata themselfs but they are not. I donot think the ceo type people in the company new anything about ata use or cared. they arehappy to make $2 on each one sold. The software I think was the idea of a IT type person to flex his musels.
It is not a steal for me when it makes my computer unusable. I have a fairly new computer with a Dual Core processor it was totally screwing things up as I posted in the first post. So I ended up having to keep it unplugged to keep my computer running right. And I definitely was not going to plug it in every single time I needed to use it. Thats why it went back to the store. So yes, you're right in a way, it was a steal...they were stealing my money if I did not return it.srvctek wrote:Lets face it even if we cant use an ata it still works, maybe not as good but in my opinion your getting alot more than your paying for in this case, you cant beat the price, its still a steal.
Exactly. Its your pc not the dongle, I own 3 laptops and 1 thin client all of which are spyware and virus free, the slowest being the client @ 800 mhz with 512 mb ram and the fastest being my dell running a centrino T9500 with 4Gb ram all of which run fine using the mj dongle. I suggest you buy a dongle and come home and wipe your pc meaning format your drive and reinstall windows minus any crap you dont need such as what comes with a pc restore disk and update everything then try your MJ, I think you will be happy then.leashy wrote:It is not a steal for me when it makes my computer unusable. It seems ridiculous that I would have to start fresh with a clean PC just to make my MJ dongle work. If thats what it takes, then I'm not willing to do it and am glad I returned it. My PC works fine, running a Dual Core processor with 2GB of ram. It runs perfectly in every way. It is spyware and virus free. But the dongle screws it up. So i have 2 options then, buy a new computer or reinstall windows, and I'm not going to do either. The MJ should just work.srvctek wrote:Exactly. I read this thread and checked the receipt on my 3rd MJ, seeing that I was on day 29 of the 30 I had to return to Radio Shack. Keeping the other 2 in case ATA becomes easier than it is now.
Thanks for the heads up on the return. I bought the thing just a few days before the ATAs went dark and soon wished I hadn't. Didn't even think I could return it, but glad I was wrong.

I run a AMD tri-core with 8gb ram, running vista 64bit ultimate with tons of apps at all times, I hook up magicjack and well besides its annoyances it works flawlessly. I have been using MJ for over year and haven't had problems with it for atleast 9-10mths (wasn't able to connect to server for some reason).
Normally the MJ is connected to my other computer tho which is a celeron 1ghz with 512 ram which is just used for internet browsing and few apps and MJ works perfect on that too. I'd have to say if "MJ" is slowing your computer down that much. I'd say start either one look for an upgrade or two there is something else that is bogging your computer down. (more than likely the second reason)
I own 3 magicjack jacks and well for the price of them, sound quality, and reliability, they are worth it for me and many others.
and I share a 1.5mb/768k connection with total of 4 computers

I can sympathize with those that have mj and it locks up there PC. I was doing some testing for my aunt to see if she can use the MJ dongle for other purposes and it was locking up my other machine without even using the software. It was only detecting the dongle. It works fine on my primary machine though so no complaints here.
