Linksys WRT54GS Causes MJ to Hang Up at 30 Secs, Inbound Cal

Post by cudjoewill »

I recently upgraded the firmware on my WRT54GS and now "For inbound calls only" the router disconnects calls exactly at 30secs into ea call. I have spent an entire day with MJ tech support, still no resolution. We rerouted ports 5060 & 5070. Still the same problem. The MJ works perfect when I bypass the router. Anyone have any suggestions ??? This one is driving me crazy.

I used to be a Vonage customer, Vonage gave me a LINKSYS like yours about 3 years ago, those WRT54GS have a Vonage propietary firmware for VoIP.
I tried to use my Vonage Linksys with Magic Jack, it worked fine on the wireless side but it gave an error 50 about every 1/2 hour on the Cat 5 ports.
I changed my wireless router for other brand and my problem went away.
If your LINKSYS WRT54GS is Vonage branded that could be your problem.
Replace it or unlock it and reflash it.

You have to change your LinkSys firmware

Many people, including me, had this problem. It's caused by the Linksys firmware, no matter what version. Go to dd-wrt.com, select 'supported hardware' and put in your router's model then choose its version. Then you'll see a choice of firmware files. I downloaded and installed:

dd-wrt.v24_voip_generic.bin

No more disconnects at 32 seconds, and my router works as well, if not better than it ever did with Linksys firmware!

I had the same issue with my Linksys WRT54GL. It worked fine for months then I just couldn't make any more calls. I flashed with DD-WRT but then re-flashed with Tomato so that I can do QoS. I personnaly prefer Tomato over DD-WRT.
