New magicJack coming Q3 2009 or Q1 2010
MagicJack plans to release a new model using femtocell technology. This will enable users to connect their GSM phone calls through a magicJack to save minutes and boost indoor call quality. The connection will be wireless, and ride a portion of cellular spectrum. According to Borislow “it’ll be just a little bigger [than the current magicJack] and the expense will be just a few dollars more.” It’ll also feature a revamped 911 system that uses triangulation to plot your current location.

So I like to invent telco systems, dream about different ways to do things. After going cellphone after decades of being in the RCC field, I had this idea for a device that would use the cellphone to re-energize my landline system while I was at home, slip the cellphone into a docking station, and presto all the landlines ring when a cell call comes in and they can all dial out... Well MagicJack came along and did almost that exact thing so it was good enough for me, worry about some other project, you know...
Then after my small but EXCELLENT cell phone company got eaten up by Verison, they made me switch to one of their new junky phones which totally ruined and sidelined my Treo 650, and the best cellphone ever, my Moto Razr cuz I could no longer use them on the Verison system.
So I have had this idea for maybe modding some piece of equipment to make a small low power cell system that would re-energize my now useless but still awesome cellphones and provide them with some dialing services, like routing Magic Jack into them. You would need a piece of equipment that had the 1.8ghz and 900mhz full duplex radio trancievers on board and also some analog-to-digital conversion, and some computer control for handling the cellphone handshaking protocols.
Now I wonder if this is what Magic Jack is proposing with this new model they are talking about. It would amount to another handset device type, the Softphone being one, an rj11 phone plugged in being another, and now... a Cellphone transponding to the MJ box... prettty heady stuff if thats what they are proposing
