MJ Won't Install on Dell Inspiron XP Home - SP3 - HELP!

Spent over 8 hours with MJ tech trying to get it to install on my laptop,Dell Inspiron 8600 XP Home, SP3. Nothing happens, no sign on screen, it just plugs into the USB port with a pretty blue light. I know the USB works since it makes a noise and loads an external hard drive just fine.

My husband has Vista HP - SP1 and it won't load on his system either. Is it possible the thing is defective or is this a common problem?

We've uninstalled Roxio CD creator too.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Do you have autorun turned off.

I dont know why but my mj wasn't reconized and I pluged it into the usb WITHOUT the little extension. Just the mj alone. It was then reconized. After that it was reconized with the extenion cable attached.

How do I turn off autorun? thanks. Control panels I guess. But remember this unit is not seen by either laptops and can't be found by scanning. Thanks Just4fn, we tried 5 ports on 2 different machines with and without extension, even tried a powered hub, it is not connecting, can't be found.

Sounds like you've gone way beyond the call of duty trying to get it to work. I'd suggest either returning it to where you bought it (if you bought it from a brick and mortar retailer like Walmart, RS, Best Buys) or getting tech support to declare it defective and send you a new one.

I apologize for the inconvenience this might have caused you. Please let me know , does the blue light of magicjack turns ON after plugging in? If yes, Then please try to run the upgrade . During upgrade you will see Lucky you ,....upgrading you etc. Please make sure your firewall and antivirus must be turn OFF and if you have any Nero Program , You will need to remove that one also. However later you can installl nero and other programs. If you do not find any sign of magicjack in My Computer then please update your USB driver from Drive Manager

Thanks anyway, but I've done all those things; even shut off firewall and Avast anti-virus. It always had a blue light. Don't have Nero. Downloaded the upgrade 4 times (at least), so I'm not so lucky, lol, hoping it's just defective. I sure would like this thing to work. Bought new phones just for the occasion. They are sending a new MJ unit so we'll see if it shows then. Thanks for all your help!

MJ sent a replacement and it installed without a problem, so apparently the first unit they sent was defective. Thanks for all the suggestions though.
