Att landline call to my MJ say it's a disconnected Verizon

Post by nagrutan »

Greets,

Title pretty much tells it all. Any call from an att landline to my MJ they get a recorded message saying the verizon number you are trying to reach has been disconnected. Anyone else have similar problems? Talked to live support with the following results:

Please wait for a site operator to respond.

You are now chatting with 'Cristine'

Cristine: Hello, how may I help you?

paul: when people call from a att landline to my mj number they get a message from verizon saying the number is no longer in service.

Cristine: Hello Paul.

paul: hello

Cristine: Please wait while I check that for you

Cristine: Thank you for your patience. I will transfer you to a higher level of support. Please hold while I transfer you.

Please wait while I transfer the chat to the best suited site operator.

You are now chatting with 'Melina'

Melina: Hello, how may I help you?

As has been reported here in several previous posts (it's pretty polite to read previous threads before opening a new thread on the same topic), this problem is squarely in AT&T's court (in this case). You happened to have gotten a promise from MJ that they need not have given you. Your callers must contact AT&T and get them to correct the problem. Read the other threads for the details of what is going on.

I was just wondering if you have your magicjack forwarded to another phone number?

Emailing Dan with the phone numbers and whats going on can speed up getting this fixxed.

The evidence presented indicates that this is identical to the other threads that talk about PSTN MACs getting lost.

How can it possibly be on the receiver's side if other senders are able to get through?

Besides the pure illogic of AT&T having said that, let's look at this problem from the point of view of magicJack:

- MJ invests no more than they absolutely have to in order to provide service.
- MJ earns [small amounts of] money for each minute of each incoming call.
- MJ has no incentive to disenfranchise AT&T customers who wish to call MJ customers.

The bottom line is that MJ would never exert effort and money in a direction that would reduce their revenues. After all, it is rare to see MJ invest money and energy in features that would boost revenues, so why would they help cut them?

I have the same problem with my AT&T land line callers. They get a disconnect message. Cell phone callers can call in fine.

MJ said they would look into it, turn the issue over to their engineers and reply to me in 3-5 days. Chatted them back on day 5 and they said they would turn it over to their engineers again and would have it fixed in 12 hours. 24 hours later I'm looking here for a resolution.

MJ told me it was not a routing problem with At&t, but then again this was the support person that can only give me the update and pass me off to someone else who said they would pass it to their engineers.

Still not fixed

Post by dkBayCity »

I had this problem a long time ago with At&T landlines. I got my money back and now decided to see if they fixed it. The guy at Radio Shack heard of it in the past but not recently so he thought it was corrected.

However, the problem still exists. I can call just about anyone anywhere but I cannot receive calls from my mother-in-law who has a ATT landline. You might think this is OK but not in my case. We get along well.

Anyway, I verified this issue. She is in the same area code 989 as I am. I don't know if this is part of the problem but it is definitely not fixed yet.

If anyone has any insight, I would appreciate it. I have 29 more days before I return it.

Have your mother-in-law contact ATT customer svc and let them know about the specific number she cannot reach. It is up to ATT to correct their 'routing tables'. Happens all the time with the proliferation of CLEC owned exchanges that may be considered out of the mainstream.
Also check with some of your neighbors and see if they have problems dialing your MJ via ATT.
Good Luck
