I have an hp t5710 thin client. I originally had 256mb of ram and upgraded to 512mb. MJ works on it ok but is rather slow. I was reading about the disk on module in the sticky thread and I'm wondering if upgrading this from 256mb to 1gig will make a noticeable improvement. My mj works great on my old desktop but I would love to get it working better on my thin client. Thanks again to everyone for all the great info on here.

If you are running only the MJ on the T5710, then speed isn't an issue. MJ runs fine on my T5700. If you are running other things, then more memory might help as there'd be less disk swapping. But then you might want to use a desktop or laptop for more intensive work.

Here's the deal with the DOMs and XPe (or any Windows OS with the EWF driver). The write speed is usually the downfall of most flash based memory. When running the EWF (native in XPe), you are only reading from the DOM as all writes are done to RAM unless you choose to commit the changes.

Getting a Transcend DOM will speed up any reads, but won't really have any noticeable impact on write speed unless you were to disable EWF.


Just for a little comparison, I got my wife an Eee PC that had a 4GB flash memory module on it. I installed a full copy of XP that would stutter regularly because the system was waiting to write to the flash memory. Asus really stuck a slow piece of flash memory in it. I ordered a much faster 16gb module, but installed EWF while it was shipping.

The EWF driver removed the stuttering since it was writing to RAM and it was really fast after that. I installed the newer flash memory when it got in and disabled EWF. This shows that even a slower writing speed flash memory based solution can be boosted to top levels using EWF.

EWF has its limitations in that it will reboot the PC if it tries to use over 512mb of RAM. On a thin client used for MJ, this really is a non-issue.

Not sure if this helped or not, but should give you an idea of what you might expect with a flash upgrade.
