Click the "Safely Remove" icon in the tray (lower right corner) and click to have it eject the MJ. That will shut it down.

That by the way should always be done before unplugging the MJ to avoid corrupting the files on the MJ.

Edited to specify correct icon in the tray.

I'm not sure, but murphy might have been referring to the
"Safely Remove Hardware" tray icon, which, if you single left-click on,
will display a line with the two MJ drives listed. You can then click on
that line and eject the device.

My MagicBeans® software (currently in beta testing) has several
options to control starting/stopping/rebooting MJ, which you might
find useful. You're welcome to beta test it, and you can find more info
on it at this thread:

It will be released as commercial software, but it's in beta testing
right now, and you can join the test if you want. When it's
released it will be available (from multiple "stores" (online)) for
under $20, and even under $15. I plan to be able to offer beta
testers a free copy which will still have copy protection.
Upgrades will also always be free (for all owners).

Just PM or email me the following info, and I'll send you the beta info:

Machine Info (CPU/Memory/Model)
OS Info (Version/Build/Service Pack)
The email address you'll use for registration
Your Name (First & Initial is fine (if you want to remain a nano mouse) :)

Thanks

It is possible to run your MJ in standby mode so you don't need to unplug it or shut the MJ down. But what I do is set my power settings so that the monitor and hard discs shut down,(it doesn't matter what time you set it to shut down, but also set the power to go on standby. The MJ DOES still work in that setting, so at least you're saving electricity while doing so. But I'd recommend restarting your PC at least once a day. That's what I've been doing all along, and it works fine.
I hope this helps.
