magic jack is bullsh!T

Post by 2088bob »

I can't use it without a big hassle in Canada. Secondly i must be missing something here. You need an internet connection to use it I get my internet via a phone line so i have a monthly bill. so just where is the savings, I make hardly any long distance calls so where is the savings so unless you can jump on someone elses wireless internet connection(which i think is wrong)

So either i am totally dense or we must be back to If it sounds to good to be true ,it is

You never defined "hassle"... but since you have stated that you use dial-up and not some form of broadband (DSL, Cable, FIOS) then you'd definitely not be the target audience for MagicJack.

Then call her. The fact that there are no Canadian numbers is quite easy to find out. Heck, I'm in the US and they don't have a number near to my area code either yet.

I understand your frustration(s), but I'd be willing to bet you should have done a bit more research first.

Good luck with your endeavors; however I'd suggest returning if you're in your return period.

You seem to be implying that everyone must have the same motivations and usage patterns. That's false.

Some people make tons of long distance calls. They can save money with MJ without even considering disconnecting their landline.

Some people will have a cell phone regardless of whether they have a landline. Those people (if they're willing to put some effort into making MJ work, and use backup services like vbuzzer.com and Skype) can save money by disconnecting their landlines.

Others travel a lot (even internationally). MJ is a cost-effective way to maintain a US phone number which can be used anywhere (in the world, as long as a country doesn't block VOIP traffic).

Since MJ requires internet access, I don't believe most people would count that monthly bill against MJ. It's assumed that if you're going to have internet access you can save money by reducing your long-distance, landline, and/or roaming charges.

Mark I agree with you ,you hit the nail on the head, my usage is somewhat low.
But i do disagree with you about fees. You need internet to make this work so in my mind that has to be figured into the cost NO internet NO MJ
I spend less than 30 bucks a year on long distance total. I have some super cheap dialing plans at my disposal which i use

And to Gerbick I am doing the research I haven't bought a thing yet ANd the call her comment wasn't helpful if you catch my drift

Sorry it wasn't helpful. I just call my mother using MagicJack to avoid her using her phone and causing a bill. So I talk from a bit of experience in regards to that.

Most people are going to have internet anyway. No VoIP service is marketed as an internet replacement. It's marketed as a way to save money on legacy/traditional telephone services by leveraging the internet most people will have anyway. (Look up what the "IP" in VoIP stands for.).

Using your reasoning, you'd criticize MJ because you need a computer to make calls. And, you still need to eat food (to stay alive, so you can make calls).

There's a lot to criticize MJ about. But, the fact that you need internet access (and a computer, and remain alive) to use it aren't one of them.

If you're using Dialup internet connection then better not to purchase the product, If Magicjack is a Bullshit so be it BTW you can use AT&T, Verizon, Sprint or any carriers near you as a sort of communication. just a piece of advice do not expect too much if you are paying less. :!:

Dude.... That would be like saying a lamp, or a television is a rip off, as you need electricity to run it.

Absolutely! I have not had a single problem with the MJ I bought last February. It has worked just as reliably as a land line every single time my wife and I have needed to make a call or receive a call. I hooked up a four handset Panasonic DECT 6.0 phone system and it allows us normal phone service throughout the house for $20/year!

It may not be a viable solution for everyone, but it is far from being bull$hit. Complaining because MJ needs an Internet connection is just plain ridiculous. How did the OP expect it to work? Using carrier pigeons?
