static on line

Post by fderfield »

Sometimes I get static on my side of line. I have changed jack input and closed all running programs but still have this problem. Sometimes I hang up and recall with success, but more often the static remains

I too have encountered a similar problem to Frank in the last week or so, start the call, static even at dial tone, call again, no static, but, as per Frank, it is more often than not, for me the problem is only heard on my end so not as bad but still very annoying, just another bump in the MJ road.

Mine was more choppy than static, but whatever it was made regular use with dongle not practical. I tried the remedies in the wiki (at least the ones I could implement with my limited skills), but it didn't help much.

So, I was a 90 pound weakling, all messed up on MagicJack but still unable to make calls with MJ. Vonage and other VOIP users were continually kicking sand in my face.

Then I tried the ATA solution, and calls were clear all the time. I felt like Franky Avalon in those beach movies ...

Then the upgrade. Now I am using MJMD5 and an ATA, and the call quality is usable but seems to get choppy with network traffic. Sometimes a little static on the line, but not consistent.

Why don't you try the sipsorcery solution, then you don't have to run MJMD5?
