MJ Start Automatically?

Post by seventyseven »

I just received a "configured for Magicjack" T5700 today. I have a question. Is the MJ software supposed to start automatically when the TC boots? I have tried putting a shortcut in the startup folder and no joy. Am I missing something? Right now to use my MJ I have to unplug and replug it in, or start the software manually.

Remember to do a commit after you start it manually. That way it saves all of the the necessary files and should reboot fine after that.

I just rebooted, started MJ manually, and committed. After the reboot MJ still does not start automatically...you are saying it's supposed to, right?

Yes it should. At least mine does and others I know using TCs also do.

So does anyone know why mine wouldn't start automatically? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the forum Seventyseven!
I am using a different TC but lets double check a few things. I am assuming that you are using WinXP.

When the 5700 boots, is it logging on as a specific user? Or is it going to the Administrator? If it is going to a user, does it behave when you log on as the Administrator?

The TC is automatically logging in as Administrator. I tried making a new user account, and after reboot it still doesn't start automatically.

I am sure that one of the members who are using your particular TC, HP5700 will be along shortly. Until they arrive, we will take care of the minor things.

Okay, logging in as Admin. Lets be sure that EWF (green light in task bar or something like that) is OFF and remains off until all this is resolved.

Now lets check to be sure that the USB ports are on and not allowed to go to sleep. System Properties, Hardware, Device Manager, each Root Hub, Power Management, NOTHING is to be checked.

I remember reading about problems of with the short USB extension cable. If you are using it, please consider replacing it with a short, high quality cable. You should forgo the USB cable during this troubleshooting

Now, do you have a magicJack icon on the desktop? If mJ is properly installed, you will have an icon on the desktop. If no icon, try MagicFix to see if it installs the update and icon. If you do have an icon, try MagicFix to see if it installs an update. We will be able to get rid of the icon later if that is your desire; but for now, lets be sure mJ is properly installed.

You previously posted that your TC was configured for mJ. I am wondering if your supplier installed mJ on a specific user. When I rec'd mine, I found that I had two accounts, Administrator and User and the TC was configured to automatically boot into the User account.

One more thing comes to mind, make sure the cdloader is enabled. I do not remember how to do it in WinXP - forgot what replaced msconfig.

Please check and post.
