How do I shut down MJ on a PC?

Post by nestman »

I normally use my MJ on my Mac computer. Now I have it plugged into my PC I've noticed the two soft phones are different. The PC version does NOT have a "close" button. How am I supposed to shut it down?

Thanks,

Rob

Just left click on the green arrow ( safely remove hardware) icon in the lower right hand corner of your screen. Then just left click on the drive letters of your MJ drive. I do this every time I reboot my PC or shut it down for the evening. In over a year I have not had it glitch where I had to format my MJ. To me this seems the safest way to "close" it.

Click on the Safely Remove Hardware icon in the tray and click to safely remove the two MJ drives.

USB storage devices on XP do auto unmount so it is not required that they be stopped before removal. MJ looks like a flash drive and I've simply removed it time after time with no ill affect. In fact that's what the tech support weenies have instructed me to do (not that that means much given the low caliber of MJ tech support).

But a simpler way to "gently" shut down the soft phone and render the dongle "off" is to open a DOS/Command window and type "tskill magicjack"

Except in MJ case it has been noted here the softphone reads and writes to the MJ dongle every 3 seconds!! So by just pulling it out IF that is done AS it is writing the MJ dongle's firmware CAN be corrupted. This usually requires a format of the dongle. So ALWAYS best to do a remove hardware JUST to be safe.
