Do you have a Magic Jack Problem ?

Post by MJ Problem Solver »

I have had my Magic Jack for over 1 1/2 years now.

I've had every possible problem that could occur.

I can't begin to count the number of times I have been on the "chat' with support for several hours for each occurence.

I've lost all of my contacts several different times due to "chat" support.

I finally figured out on my own how to fix Magic Jack and get it up and running again quickly.

I will be glad to help anyone !
I have been a Magic Jack user since 2007.
Do you get "you must plug into a USB port" error ??
Do you get "Broken Storage" error ??
Tired of talking to support for hours ??!
Lost your contacts ??!
I can have you up and running in about 5 minutes !

Sure, if you read talking into fan thread. I still don't have a resolution.
I have my suspicion as to cause. Some workarounds (magicblock and script to restart MJ after first incoming call. But, not a fix or total nail down of cause other than pure software update related, since never happened before latest upgrade.exe.

Can't make outbound calls

Post by DrFillster »

Hi, MJ user on Windows 7 RC with update installed.

I can't make outbound calls with my telephone. Softphone works fine.

I can take inbound calls and that works well.

Any ideas?

TIA

If MJ is plugged into my PC, then I can make outbound calls. If it is plugged into my Mac, I can only call select 800 numbers. What the heck is going on?

Do you know how to set up MagicJack to run as a service in Windows 7?

Error broken Storage :

Just format your magicjack drive and run the upgrade without unplugging.

If you get window can not format this drive , there are two solution.
1 . Restart PC in safe mode and do format your magicjack drive from there 2. Download HP USB Formatting tool and format magicjack drive

Bought a MJ yesterday. Have Comcast internet & cable. Was able to get an installed message from MJ but no registration screen appeared and I therefore cannot register to get a phone number from MJ. Also got a message from MJ that there is no internet! How crazy is this? Can anyone help me please? Thanks.

The biggest problem with getting ANY program to run that needs Inet access it called TROJANS. In the mass effort to stop them firewalls and routers also stop wanted programs.

Begin by shutting down ur firewall and connecting computer directly to modem (not router). If it works, u know where the issue is. If it does not work, it is time to be frustrated by MJ TnS again.

NOTE- I had to REMOVE my firewall to get a program to work. When I shut it off, it somehow still blocked the operation of a program (not MJ). Just be aware that it could happen.

The MJ sites, MJ and talk4free, need to be set up as trusted. Ports 5060 and 5070 also need to be passed thru the router to the computer running the MJ.

Set firewall for trusted sites

reg.talk4free.com
my.magicjack.com or *.magicjack.com

set router for single port forwarding under games

5060 both (computer 192.x.x.x IP)
5070 both (computer 192.x.x.x IP)

NOTE - however, that most of the time this is not a problem, but MJ TnS will make it appear to be the problem and make u think they solved it for u - so do it before chatting so maybe they can solve the real issue.

Not working with Windows Vista

Post by shardman1 »

I am trying to troubleshoot a friends MJ. They have an HP touchscreen computer running Vista Home Premium. When I plug the MJ in it opens a folder showing contents of usb dongle. There are no executable files and nothing runs. I tried the MJ on my XP machine and it works great. Tried the reformat and all the other "help" from the MJ site and nothing works. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

OK, you are on ...

Hi there.
Caught your offer, so I thought to see if you have an answer.

My MJ seems to be working good now. It loads when I start the PC and I can use it to make and receive calls.

Faxing is a different matter. It will receive pretty easily, but when I send it is a hit and miss ...mostly a miss.

I did read this is a problem, and to use downgrade.exe. Did that ..no real change.

Do you have an idea? If this is a normal non - fixable thing, then I am going to rig a switch up to shift outgoing faxes to my other line I still have with Charter.

Thanks
