Xlite setup

Can someone give me some info on setup with xlite.I received password and username from pw finder but I still get error. Do I need
mjmd5 running? If I do, where can I find this program. As you can see I am newbie to all this. I have been reading board but it seems info is scattered all over.any help would be appreciated.

Yes, in xlite you need to point the server/proxy to your local ip or 127.0.0.1

and, yes, you need to download this MJMD5, which can be found here:

For X-lite, use the un/pw from password finder and register with your local ip (usually 192.168.X.X:5070) or 127.0.0.1:5070 under domain and outbound proxy.

You should get a successful register when loading up x-lite with mjmd5 already running.

Does this go in Xlite under domain and in proxy in MJMD5? I am already using proxy01.miami.talk4free.com. Do I use the 216.xxx.x.x?

Use 216.234.79.8 for proxy in mjmd5 and 127.0.0.1:5070 for domain and proxy in X-lite.

Do I use my machine ip 192.168.x.xxx or the 127.xxx.x.xxx. I am still having above error.

Thank you so much I got it. Just curious, how is this different then just using magicjack softphone? I still need my computer on right? I guess I could use this from any other computer. Now, is it possible to use these credentials for mobile application (Ex Fring). I actually have a windows mobile phone, so I am not sure what app would be available.

Yes,
It works with Fring on iTouch 2G, just type-in your credentials as found with Passwordfinder or Stroths.

If you just want a softphone, this is one step better than mj softphone since it doesn't require dongle. There's a hack for that but not sure if it works with latest upgrade (at least not for me). X-lite is one of the better softhpones.

If you use another PC/laptop/mobile than you have to point proxy to 192.168.
X.X:5070. The 127.0.0.1:5070 only works if server&client are on same PC.

You must be one with a newer dongle, otherwise those credentials would work in ATA as well. Siphon, Fring, and all the other mobile apps can point to your ip running the proxy in your house. Once you go to Starbuck's or some other remote wifi - it's not gonna work.

You are right,
My older MJ at home (Apr 09) doesnt work on ATA or X-lite etc. The one in the office (May 09) runs perfectly well on PAP2 and iTouch 2G. Anyone found a fix for that issue?

Yes it works with xlite. I do not have ATA. Jyst follow the info above and you will be fine. If you have any particular questions let me know.

it works great when running MJMD5, this would require a PC on.

There are other "current" fixes for the older mj's (prior to 04/09) but they all involve a proxy server within your home network (which requires either a computer or a DDWRT capable router) so that your ATA can link to the proxy and the proxy has the xtra algorithms to authenticate you without the dongle.

I say "current" because in due time, mj will probably put a plug in the newer dongles as well as change the newer algorithms to make life difficult working with an ATA or mobile as a substitute for the dongle. The good news is that with the latest 8/2/09 upgrade, voice quality has improved somewhat but MJ, in general, is not quite there yet compared to other Voip services.

Trying to install MJMD5 on TC5700 and get error message "cant initialize MJMD5.exe ..." Do I need to install .net on the thin client to run MJMD5? If yes, I guess I'm SOL, no free space for this. Anyone? Tx

At this time, is anyone having any luck still running MJ on Linux softphones Xlite or Twinkle? I am wondering if the latest MJ updates are no longer supported by Linux softphones. I have tried both Xlite and Twinkle with no luck. I am currently trying X-Lite release 1105d build stamp 99999. Don't remember the version of Twinkle I had installed, but it was pretty recent, installed with Fedora "yum" package manager. So, with Xlite for Linux, obviously cannot run MJMD5.exe, as it is a Windows executable, but must also run something else, like a server program such as Asterisk? I am quite new to Linux, and softphones, so do not know anything about how to set one up other than what I have read in forums.

I have read the above Xlite configuration setup, but have a question about the "SIP proxy" server, not the "Outbound proxy", which is the computer ip address...when inserting "proxy1.city.talk4free.com", should also insert the ":5070"?
