No voice mail to softphone or email, only handset

For 2 weeks I have ONLY been able to retrieve my voicemail messages from my handset.
I am not receiving voicemail messages via email and the Softphone won't retrieve voicemail messages using the VMAIL button OR by dialing on Softphone.....and the green light by VMAIL button doesn't light up or blink when there are some to retrieve.
In the call list, all calls that I haven't picked up WHETHER OR NOT A MESSAGE WAS LEFT are printed in RED, not green or blue.
MJ Chat had me reformat the device to restore to factory specs through Disk Utility(of course, the contact list spiraled the drain) That did nothing to solve the problem so MJ Chat #2 went down the same road and that fried the device so that all it would do is "double click to start" "double click to start" over and over and over.
Fortunately Best Buy replaced it without a charge or a blink but when I plugged the new device in I was again back to the original problem of only being able to retrieve messages on the handset.

FYI Mac OSX Leopard user (but couldn't find any related posts on the Mac site)
