Problems in san antonio

Post by s-alejandro »

Multiple user friends are having problems down here.
Incoming callers hear circuits are busy or hear nothing at all.
Can not answer incoming calls, though the MJ phone rings

Anyone else having these problems?

Tech support says they will forward to engineers.

I am in Corpus Christi but since MJ didn't have a 361 area code I have a San Antonio (210) area code and this is exactly my problem... This just started today..

diusews,

Be prepared to be very frustrated.
My problems started Tuesday the 22.
I have spent about a 8 hours with tech support on three different days.

It has to be a server issue on their end.

I kept trying to get them to admit that I was not the only one having problems but no....

I've seen ways of using different servers on my end but am not savvy enough to figure it out.

At least I can dial out, and since the incoming call shows up on my CID, I can call the right back.

Same Problem

Post by Bud_Man »

I can dial out no problem. However, some (not all) calls to my magic jack do not connect. For example, my friend on AT&T (cell phone) calls me, the phone rings, but it never connects when picking up the phone. I've spent three days with MJ techs and they cant figure it out.

Let me know if that works when you get it, please.

Bud_Man,

Me too, my friend who is on pocket called me twice with no problem. So far she's the only one to get through.

I would be interested in knowing if you all are using the same ISP (Internet Service Provider) in the San Antonio area ?
I have been a Magic Jack user since 2007.
Do you get "you must plug into a USB port" error ??
Do you get "Broken Storage" error ??
Tired of talking to support for hours ??!
Lost your contacts ??!
I can have you up and running in about 5 minutes !

I'm using Time Warner

Post by Bud_Man »

Road Runner to be specific. This is a strange problem. I have my router ports forewarded to my MJ and I have the MJ websites as "Trusted" in IE. Still, some calls dont make it through (e.g. AT&T Cell phone in SA). All outgoing calls are fine. In fact, when I call that same AT&T cell phone from my MJ, it works fine. Not vice versa.

I had the same problem with the 210 area code until yesterday. I believe it's a MJ network issue. I could call out. People calling in would not hear a ring, the call never went to voice mail. The soft phone did show the call coming in, but if I answered there was no sound on my end or the caller's end. I turned the MJ PC off. I called my MJ phone number - no ringing heard and it did not go to voice mail. So that ruled out the PC, MJ and my own network.

Resolution: I logged into my.magicjack.com and changed my phone number and area code. Problem solved for me. This doesn't help anyone who needs to keep the 210 area code, but I think it demonstates that it's a MJ network issue at their end.

I live in San Antonio and I am having problems similar to this. My son also is having problems. We are using Time Warner Roadrunner cable modems. Are mj users that are having trouble here in SA also using this provider?

Time Warner here also but at midnight last night I got a call from a friend in California and my phone rang, showed up on computer and we could talk.... Must be the Texas or San Antonio thing. I'm still letting them send me a new MJ, won't cost anything.

Problems in san antonio

Post by khaase44 »

Getting a new dongle probably might be a good thing even if it doesn't help. When I chatted with Lizzie at mj support she admitted that the engineers are aware of the problem in san antonio. Also, it must be an area code thing because she offered to give me a new mj area code and phone number. I told her that I didn't want to have an area code different from the 210 because then people calling me locally would have to enter 10 digits. Sure hope they fix the problem soon. I just renewed my subscription for another year last month.

Is there anyone in san antonio area having the problem we are having that is not using time warner roadrunner? If not, looks like someone is trying to eliminate competition with their VOIP!

Lucky you though..... I live in Corpus Christi (361) but that area code is not even available... Had to go with San Antonio (210) ((only 2 hours away)) and everyone has to dial 10 digits here.......

I feel your pain. One consolation is that you live in a great city with beach front property. Let's just hope that the polar caps don't melt.

I noticed that I can call people on my magic jack who have different area codes than 210, but they have difficulty calling my magic jack. Definitely a 210 problem. :D

Magic Jack San Antonio

Post by Gary F »

I live near New Braunfels, in 830 area code, but use San Antonio Road Runner/EarthLink ISP. My MJ is driving me crazy, sometimes it works, sometimes is doesn't, started about a week ago also. People calling me from 210 can't get me, sometimes not even a ring, sometimes it will show up on voice mail that someone called and I can call them back. Some times I can call back using MJ, sometimes I have to call back using my cell. Hope RR and MJ can fix this problem.
Please keep us posted as to what the problem is.

Regards

Gary

Yep me too. TW roadrunner, started the middle of last week

Post by Mammoth »

Might well be TW, but bet its a bad server. Back in Oct or so there was a period of time where you always had to call the incoming caller back otherwise the drop outs were so severe you could not have a conversation....

Problems in san antonio

Post by khaase44 »

After not working all last week, today, Monday, September 28, my magic jack magically started working properly again. Maybe that's why they call it magic jack. I have made and received calls all day without any problems.

Are others in area code 210 that were experiencing problems able to make and receive calls successfully?

Problems appear to be fixed. So far. But obviously it was something on their end. I just wish they would communicate to their tech support staff so they could tell us yes it is on our end, server is down, we'll be back up soon etc...
instead of making me waste 8 hours of their tech support time trying to reconfigure MY computer settings

I agree with s-alejandro... Now I'm getting a new MJ and going to have to send back the old one to keep from being charged for it. If they had just said they were experiencing problems I would have just given them a few days to fix it and, likewise, not have reconfigured my whole computer for 6 hours and 8 different techs... geez

I would bet that this was totally a Time Warner deal

Post by Mammoth »

and then I would short the odds by suggesting it was a Level3 router. Having said that I bet those poor techs at MagicJack never had a clue where the problem was but it probably wasn't on their end.
