The room where I want to use the Magic Jack is not the same room that houses my PC. Can I link the MJ to the PC, plug it into my regular wall jack, then plug my phone into a different wall jack?
Also, has anyone had much luck connecting a modem through the MJ?
Thanks in advance!

People have plugged the MJ into their house wiring with mixed results. The most important step is to ensure that your house wiring has been disconnected from the Telephone company's cable pair at your home's primary entrance terminal (or PET. That's the box on your house where their cable connects to your house wiring). I recommend using a cordless phone system, and calling it a day. The MJ has limited power to push out to several phones over extended wiring.
If you're using DSL for your high speed internet, then you will have to make a special connection from the PET to your DSL modem. With other sources of broadband, you don't have to worry, just disconnect the Telco line.
Modems, like fax machines, rely on a solid, circuit switched connection to perform properly. There have been reports of success using both at lower speeds. For modems, they should automatically attempt to drop down to the highest speed that works, but you may want to try manually setting slower speeds if that fails.
Modem requests like yours always beg the question: Why do you need a dial up connection when you are already using MJ over a broadband connection? I know there are still some legacy uses that people have, so I am really asking out of curiosity.
An old DVR
I have an old ReplayTV stand-alone DVR. It connects via modem each night to update the program guide. It's been gathering dust since I just have cell service and don't want to pay $24 a month just for the DVR to connect. If it would work with MJ, then I can start using it again.
The lowest the modem goes on the DVR is 9600, so I don't think this will be the solution for me.

Why not just use a multiple handset cordless? Plug the base station in at the computer and use the remote handset(s)?Dank_01 wrote:The room where I want to use the Magic Jack is not the same room that houses my PC. hsweiss is correct.
You should use a multi set of cordless phones.
The main set at your computer and the auxillary set in the room where you want to use your Magic Jack.
This will definitely solve your problem.
