Question for the group

Post by dtm »

Some of what I have read here lately seems to indicate that the very newest MagicJacks are working without the need for MJMD5. In other words the user credentials can be installed into a straight ATA device and they will work normally. No MD5 manipulation is needed and they work just like the good old days.

Is this correct?

If so, what is the user agent string?

I don't expect changing the user agent to work on the ATA since MJ's server would have to be on the same page and probably matches the authentication routine to the telephone number. I would however like to know the software version number.

Maybe there is hope that Dan will remove the MD5 manipulation. Maybe he is listening and will one day give us a BYOD option. Maybe... :P

Seems that way...I bought my MJ about a month ago and it works fine on my Linksys ATA.

The latest I have is "MagicJack/1.80.499.2 (SJ Labs)".

That would be nice...no more hacking to find hidden passwords. Just email our credentials on demand from the website.

Thanks for the reply!

It will be interesting to see if MJ drops the MD5 manipulation with the next round of updates.

Has anybody tried to force an update of the dongle to see if the need for MJMD5 goes away?

Have you tried it both with and without MD5 manipulation?

Yes, I have tried many combinatios. One of them was adding
auth=MD5 in a trunk. My main example was the trunk from 2007 majicjack that I bought directly from MJ. That old MJ is working with Trixbox as well with PAP2T. The voice quality is much better than originally on MJ -that's my experience. I have read a lot of about Mj version but the old MJ has been updated too so where is the trick?
As I stated before I have use many combinatios with the trunk on TRIX
but what I have is 120 AUTH SENT that is the trunk cannot get register with MJ. I will be doing RMA on that Mj bought from RadioShack and will try to buy from other place - maybe that's the trick after all.....

Yeap I have tried another one from Wallmart and the same think. I could easly get SIP psswd and user using passwordFinder 2.1 but when tried in a SIP trunk under TRIX I have 120 SEND AUTH ......

I am willing to pay to setup SIP trunk in Trixbox and get it finally to work.
