Hi Joe. I presume you suggest using the Windows sound recorder. Can you try it and tell me how to set-it up if you are successfull.

Which selections do I make to record?

I have tried it selecting "USB Internet Phone by TigerJet" as the Sound Recording sound device. No success.

Any suggestions?

Audacity works by choosing that as the recording device. However, it seems to only record my side of the conversation. That's a bit limited, but it's good to know how to record only my side since that would be legal to record without disclosing. But it would be nice to know how to record the other side as well.

I will try it. I live in Québec Canada, and in my case, I can record without telling the recorded party that I am recording the other party. This applies if I am one of the party being recorded.

I may get a chance to test it tonight or in one or 2 days.
Thank you for your help.

Forgive me if you already know this, but there have been several threads regarding recording coversations using either Wireshark or Cain & Abel. I've used both, but prefer Wireshark. However, since I don't use a headset, I haven't tested it other than with a traditional phone.

BTW, the reason I prefer Wireshark is because it separates the channels so I can listen to the quality of each side.

Hi Darkman.
Using Google, I looked for Wireshark, and found that Wireshark is a network packet analyzer.
How can I record a VOICE TELEPHONE CONVERSATION with Wireshark.
The same remarks applies to Cain & Abel.
Please tell me if I missed something.
I realy appreciate the help everyone is providing me.

Hi booyah5.
I have tried Audacity with headset and was able to record only my voice, not the voice of the person I was calling.
I set the recording to my soundcard.
What am I doing wrong?

Record your magicjack telephone calls.

Post by JohnnyFreightTRAIN »

First of all, If you have read booyah5's post properly then you would have realized that he was only able to record his side of the conversation with Audacity. That means you did nothing wrong. Apparently you can't use audacity to record both sides of the conversation.

I have not tried recording calls myself, so I probably won't be of much help to you.
BUT
I suggest browsing the forums, as there have been multiple threads on recording phone calls on your magicjack.
In many of these threads people have described (several times, actually) how to use Wireshark and Cain & Abel to record your conversations.

How hard can it possibly be?
In theory, recording your conversations using these programs should be a fairly simple process.
Just capture the traffic going to and from your magicjack, record it and play it back?
...Right?

However you do that.
lmao.

P/S- I HIGHLY doubt that it would make any difference weather you use a headset or your telephone. But that's just IMHO.

I'm surprised I didn't respond to this when it was posted!?? Are you still having problems trying to record?

Have you tried http://www.calln.com ?
It is all automatic and doesn't require skills with wireshark.
A standard mp3 file is created.

Magicjack simply uses the standard SIP protocol.

magicjack3787... yes, WS is a packet analyzer but it does give you the ability to record, as does Cain. I've used both and prefer WS because it separates the channels.

Callin might be a good service for what you want to do. Using WS is kind of like driving an 18 wheeler to the convenience store to pick up a quart of milk.

But it's free, and it works. Not sure what you're trying to do but if you check the forum, there have been lots of discussions about this. Sorry I didn't see your post to respond sooner.

possible to record mj conversation, but...

Post by solutionsdepot »

I used creative audigy. with proper settings i am able to record mj conversation.
Without a different sound card, i've been unsuccessful. I could only record either my voice or the voice on the other line... never together.

IMO, the $6.95 is a small price to pay. I bought the Magicfeaturesplugin, but the recording feature is not useful to me because of the periodic beep when recording. As I posted previously, Wireshark is the best solution because it records both channels independently. This way, I can monitor the sound quality on both sides of the conversation and listen for echo, drop outs, etc.

This past week I've been using the two plug ins from pcphonesoft for Skype and Xlite with sipgate. The Xlite plugin gives you the ability to record calls by clicking the record button or *6 to turn recording on or off. Easy and it works sweet!
