Re: using MJ from sattelite recievers
Do you have a satellite Internet setup now? If so, do a google search for "voip test" and test the quality of your connection. You're looking for a decent MOS score, the closer to 4, the better.rjprice wrote:Is it possible to use MJ from a sat rec thru a laptop with wireless card
Generally, there is too much lag/latency in a satellite connection for a decent call. There is so much lag when pieces of the conversation arrive at each end that you'll end up talking over top of each other.

Sorry but I think I wasn't real clear. We are wanting to know if MJ can be used to dial out from DTV or Dish network receivers thru a laptop with either Verizon or AT&T cards.
Sorry bout the first time post.

Right, I missed the "sat rec" part. Yes, do a search, others have posted that they successfully dial out using MJ and don't need a landline. If I recall, what you are wanting to do can be done. I think a search with "dish network" should generate some hits.rjprice wrote:Sorry but I think I wasn't real clear. I don't know about the wifi cards though, what the latency is on those.

first post.. yay! i have successfully set up what you are asking about, although I am using WIFI and not a usb air card. i have about 25 ft of telephone cable running from my computer room to my DN receiver in the living room. i produced positive results in the Volume/Headset control/Telephone settings by upping them both somewhere around the 90% mark. in short i had to call DN and ask the 5$ charge be removed and they'll ask that you run some diagnostics, and to this day "2 mos later" i still have yet to be charged and see the annoying "plug me in" message if my computer has shut down. hope this helps.
