Have Ooma, but I think I would like to try Magic Jack

I just got an Ooma, but have nothing but problems with it. I cannot get into the setup screen and it blocks all of my network computers. Here are my questions - Is there a way to setup or hack the MJ so that I do not have to leave my computer on for MJ to work? Also, can I connect the telephone connector into my home phone wiring system? ( I have disconnected telco service coming into my home and I have no landline.
Also, I have a Linksys WRT54GL router with DD-WRT.

For Ooma, you can reconfigure your system, so Ooma doesn't regulate traffic (QOS). Just plug your router directly into your modem. Then, connect your Ooma to the router using the "modem" jack on the back of your Ooma.

Another standalone option is the TK6000. (www.tk6000.com).

It is possible to use MJ without a computer. Search the forum here for: ATA. Also check the sticky threads in the "magicJack Tips, Tricks, and Hacks" subforum.

you can use the Magic Jack on a thin client and run it 24/7 for about $3 electrical use a month. It's a set it and forget it service this way.

It has been done, but is not officially supported by Magic Jack. There are many posts you can find here, where people describe their efforts.

The power output of Magic Jack is the weak link. If you make sure the house wiring is disconnected from the Telephone company outside your home, and that you are not using any old phones with mechanical bells, and you're not plugging in too many phones, then you should probably be okay.

Some are having problems with W7, others are not. Many posts about that.

I am doing this now. I have the MJ hooked into my house wiring, it's hooked up to 2 Dish Network receivers and my cordless phone system.

I essentially un-hooked the phone company's cable from the house's wiring and then plugged my MJ into one of the free outlets in my house. All the other outlets picked up the signal then.
