No Canadian numbers, missing prompts, broken portal
Hello,
When I try to register my magicJack, these are the screens I see:
1. email address and password (I use the ones I created when I ordered the magicJack through your website)
2. this modifies the screen to allow me to select register magicJack to my existing account
3. I move to the screen to fill in the address information and can do so with Canada and Ontario; btw since I'm in Canada I use StarChoice as a satellite provider, and this isn't even an option
4. I'm then moved to the choose a number screen, and there are no Canadian provinces or area codes; specifically I want Toronto in Ontario.
From my understanding, I'm supposed to see and agree to a terms and conditions screen (I don't see one), then be taken to a "choose a memorable number screen" (I don't see that one either).
At my.magicjack.com, I can login, but when I click on the my.magicJack button (Features, 911 changes, International, Additional years), I'm taken back to the login screen. Is this really the expected behaviour?
So far, this has been a bust. I really don't want my friends to have to call me long distance when they want to go golfing.
cheers,
Mike

Lacking proper Mac support
It turns out that the missing terms and conditions screen and inability to pick a Canadian or vanity number that I mentioned previously, is because of missing functionality in the "Mac version" of magicJack. I had to run Windows 7 in an emulator (VMWare Fusion) on Snow Leopard, download the software upgrade by following the instructions in a note posted in another part of this forum, and run / register magicJack from inside Windows. As a result, I was able to select an appropriate Toronto phone number and saw all the missing features that were previously not available to me on my Mac. Now that everything's registered, I'm also seeing some of the missing features in the portal, though they're not exactly as documented.
The gap between Windows functionality and Mac functionality is, to say the least, disappointing. However, now that it's resolved, I'll find out just how good magicJack can be.
*Update: I'm now using magicJack connected to my wife's iMac and all is well. Incoming and outgoing calls are clear after one day of use.*
Thanks for listening.

Re: Lacking proper Mac support
Congratulations on finding a work around. I wouldn't have guessed that the registration process would be different between the platforms, but now that you've said it, it makes sense. It is software that must be coded, after all.mkushner wrote:It turns out that the missing terms and conditions and the ability to pick a Canadian or vanity number, is because of missing functionality in the "Mac version" of magicJack. Good to know about it being different for a mac. A friend is waiting to switch to a TO number once it's allowed. Good to know that if he has a problem, what he'll have to do. Or I'll have to do as he calls me for every little thing.
[friend rant] why does someone go from a pc to a mac and not take the time to fully learn about the mac and then always call a pc guy to fix his mac? [/rant]

Let's hope that by the time your friend is able to switch to a Toronto number, that the software will have been updated in order to do so easily on a Mac. By the way - lots of Toronto numbers were available when I registered and I ended up being able to use a 416 area code; 647 was also available, though I didn't explore that very much.TransferCutter wrote:Good to know about it being different for a mac. Now you can change your # to 416/647
MJ started Canadian #s as well, call them and ask that you wanna change the # . I thing one time changing the # is free in MJ.
they may have started Canadian area codes for new customers but existing customers still can't get them in spite of being promised in 2-3 weeks over 6 weeks ago. Calling the little gal in India produces pure frustration. She has no idea when it's coming. She says "watch the website" which right now makes NO reference at all that it might be coming.
