How to download contacts..

Post by hmans »

I can't download any contacts. Whenever I click on a number that I've previously called, or that has called me, I can't add it in. I also can't add through the menu option at the top right of the screen. Am I missing something?

Can't Download Contacts

Post by buzzwood »

Same problem here. Keep trying to reload contacts but no luck. Noticed in past couple of days that, while shutting down my Vista Home Premium Laptop, that a screen appears quickly that all I can make out is Magicjack and something about saving settings or shut down. There is no time to read the screen properly or respond before the computer finishes it's shut down. Has this got anything to do with the contacts not downloading???

ME TOO

Post by PCTECH4747 »

i have same issue. i tried using the click here upgrade but it didnt fix it. They couldnt either. they told me to submit a bug report and in like 2 hours i will get an email. its been way over 2 hours. no email. If this isnt already known on the boards:

How to submit a bug report for magicjack:

plug in magicjack, then click on the softphone when it comes up, then hit Ctrl+Alt+F7 keys 2 times and boom, the form to fill out. using your own email account option dont work so you save the bug report as a file, then make a new email and attach the file to the email with a 1 liner in the subject line and email it to: [email protected]

I sent the trouble ticket and an email to Dan ( yeah it goes to Dan, my butt).
This is the reply I got ( and no it didn't fix the contact problem for me, BIG SURPRISE right?)

Hi Joe,

Thank you for the information. I want you to Run the upgrade and make sure the magicJack is plugged in then click this link for the upgrade http://upgrades.magicjack.com/upgrade/upgrade.exe. After that restart your magicJack by clicking on the “Menu” then “Advance Users” then “Restart”. The magicJack softphone/dial pad will restart. Let me know the results you should be able to retrieve your contacts after the upgrade completed.

Joe, that link will not work.
The problem is not computer or Vista related. I tried somebody elses MJ on my computer and it loaded the contacts without ptoblems.

That link worked for me, but it did not fix my no contacts problem..
They JUST gave me a fix that put my MJ back to the 8/2009 release.. That fixed it for me, but no idea how it will not be "updated " again.
Waiting for a reply from MJ as I type.

This is what the sent me to revert back to the older release:
*******

Hi Joe,

Please perform the steps below.

1. Open My Computer and look for magicJack(Vista Only Drive).
2. Right click and hit Explore.
3. Make sure to set it to "Show Hidden Folders"
4. Open magicjack folder.
5. Delete the file named CfgCache.dat

Run the upgrade/downgrade link :
http://upgrades.talk4free.com/upgrade/2 ... pgrade.exe

Please confirm me if this works.

Best Regards,

Jonathan

Thanks as those instructions works for me bitstopjoe!

I never recieved a transcript of my session online chat with mj. I also never recieved a reply from their Engineer or even tech support with the same answer you had recieved.

I too am alittle worried about updates now putting on the bad one again. I tried unplug replug and contacts returned like normal.

Well so far after rebooting a few times and even powering off last night and powering on this morning the older update has stuck. Not sure how long that waill last as I even emailed the tech who sent me the instructions asking that very thing. I never heard back. SO all we can do is keep our fingers crossed. MAYBE it will hold till the next "LUCKY YOU" update and all will be fixed, who knows.
I didnt go to online chat, I emailed Dan directly ( well most of us know it ISNT Dan who reads them, but it did get me a few replies.) After a few suggestions ( which none of them worked) the last thing he sent me, which I posted here ASAP, finally fixed the problem.
Glad to have been of help to you and others.

As of this morning, my contacts load again. I did not do any hacks, because I was not sure of the possible impact of deleting updrades on call quality and who would rely on MJ with his list of contacts( or anything else) anyway.

MJ just put up a notice on their site "If you are not able to make calls or having trouble with your contact list, please Click Here for the fix.
This will be your best solution. You should not click here if you do not have this problem." (see the orange box)

Guess what?? I got the "lucky you" update 5 min ago.. They RE UPDATED me to the Dec 2009 version, the one which messed up our contact lists.. SO FAR my contacts are there. MAYBE they fixed it?? Who knows. Time will tell. I had a feeling it would happen, as in the past whenever I rolled back an update it re-updated..

WOW "LUCKY ME"

Me too! I usually leave my PC running 24/7 But I got a trojan and had to reboot after removing it. So my MJ updated after the reboot. And naturally MJ crashed before the end of the 1st call I got. Oh yeah, I'm lucky.

Well can you say roll back!

if anyone needs that roll back file, here it is again...

The rollback works, but the software just updates itself after the rollback. Then i am stuck with the new software all over again. Is here any way to disable the auto-update?

I got my contact list back. BUT I would gladly trade it for clear calls again. After the roll back I had perfectly clear calls( for the few days before the update hit). I WISH I could figure out a way to stop that automatic update. When and if somebody finds a way or they stop running that update. I will use the roll back file once again!!!

Not sure why it affected your call sound quailty. Maybe something else is conflicting with this version of the MJ software.
A long shot here BUT a few weeks ago i was having all kinds of problems with a USB thumb drive. I could read from it JUST fine but not write to it. So on a whim I went into device manager and deleted EVERYTHING in the USB section. I then rebooted and allowed all the USB drivers to re install. Guess what? No more USB promlems. Will it work for you? beats me.. But something to keep in mind to try if all else fails. I don't know if you do back up or not, I do, so for me it was a safe bet to try since if I had problems all I had to do was restore the image to my C: drive..

Magicjack has upgraded softphone version . 20091224000005 is the latest software version of magicjack's softphone. Now your call logs and contacts will not saved in your magicjack drive. They will be saved on their servers. That is what they have done in this upgrade.
Happy to help you !

Maybe tell us something we don't already know. Don't you bother reading a topic PRIOR to posting something we have talked about already?? We KNOW our contacts are no longer on our PC but MJ servers..

Odd enough but I think my powered USB went crazy. Or my MJ decided it did not like the powered USB unit. For 2 days when my phone rings it did a continuous ring. and My contacts didn't want to load. So I downgraded, then it upgraded. Had to do that a couple of times. Got my contacts back. But ring was still weird. So I unplugged the MJ from the hub and plugged in to direct usb. Back to normal ring. Go figure????

Please see this thread here

and implement saving contacts locally to the PC in addition to the MJ servers. The way it is now, we don't have any way to backup our contact lists. The Addressbook.xml file is no longer updated!
