same as always; WARNING: Magic Jack Must be Plugged into USB

Post by coreyshu »

After spending over 6 hours in tech chat nothing they have suggested has worked. I've read alot on this forum too but can't seem to find anything specific and that I can understand.

I have downloaded the lastest version 1.90.5212.3644 upgrade onto my desktop. I have to run it everytime to get my MJ to start and see the Lucky You crap. Before the MJ would start (if plugged in) when I'd start the system.

Can anyone offer up a low level tech fix I could try so that the MJ will start without running the upgrade each time instead of stopping at the red Warning window.
Thanks

I am sure you have tried plugging the MJ into a different USB port, hopefully one in the rear of the PC, if not try that.
If you can try it on another PC I would do that as well.
A POWERED USB hub might be of help too.

First low level tech things that come to mind.

Magicjack must be plugged into USB

Post by Mightybyte »

I have gotten this message from time to time, too. I don't know if there is any true cause and effect from these solutions, but they seem to have worked for me:

1. ) Try clicking on the Magicjack icon on the desktop. Sometime it works after several tries.

2.) Try rebooting the computer with the Magicjack unplugged. After it has rebooted then plug in the Magicjack. It will then tell you there is a new USB device and load the Magicjack software.

As I mentioned, it may just be a coincidence that these methods worked, but try them anyway.

In my case this problem started when I started getting disk write errors to the MJ thumb drive. My event log is loaded with them. Probably a side effect of the high rate at which they write to the drive. Fortunately I haven't reached the 1 year renew point yet so it will not be renewed.

Lucky you only 6 hours spent with "support techs". I spent over 7 hours, to no avail. However, one of them said the error message we are experiencing is their fault due to their latest upgrade. Thanks for the info, but, they (all 5 of them!) still couldn't fix the problem.

I get the red "you must be plugged into a usb port (I tried all 4 that are on my computer plus the ac powered usb hub into which it is usually plugged) then it opens its website where I have to login. Then I click on the upgrade and everything works fine. It's a pain, but I don't use the phone much. Mostly, I have it unplugged. If there are messages, I plug it in to return calls.

Been using MJ for 3 years and this is the first problem I've had; but, it's a biggie, imho.
