What are the Magicjack service limitations?
I've been considering purchasing the "Magicjack" phone service and I was wondering if the were any geographical limitations for the service, or local numbers that couldn't be called; anything of that nature. Also any other general customer feedback would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Magicjack limits the ability to call some numbers belonging to small rural carriers that are used as free conference lines and other purposes.CarolClark wrote:I've been considering purchasing the "Magicjack" phone service and I was wondering if the were any geographical limitations for the service, or local numbers that couldn't be called; anything of that nature. You cannot make collect calls or other type of calls like 900 or 976 numbers that result in charges to your phone number.
Magicjack regularly adds to the local calling areas where they offer phone numbers. In certain circumstances these numbers are unreachable until other carriers are made aware of their existence.
As an 'enhanced data provider' they are not required to uphold all the responsibilities as a 'common carrier', like AT&T, Sprint or Verizon.
Some of the antics MJ/Ymax engages in would result in the FTC landing like a ton of bricks on Dan's neck.
As to international calls, I am certain there are some obscure countries that are not reachable via MJ's prepaid international service but have never researched them. Typical practice for most VOIP carriers who don't take the trouble to list a location noone's likely to call.
There are some countries that actively intercede against VOIP calls in their country. This will affect your ability to make calls using MJ or any other VOIP service without implementing sophisticated countermeasures, if at all. Such countries are typically located in the Middle East and Africa where the telco is owned/controlled by the national government.
