Magic Jack randomly goes on hold during calls

Post by Grammy Lisa »

Brand new here and hoping someone can tell me why this is happening and how to make it stop. Have been using MJ for 2 weeks now. I have it working on a Dell Inspiron w/XP. This laptop has been dedicated to the MJ so it is never being used during a phone call. The laptop is hardwired to my Linksys WRT300N router. During calls to different people, the same thing has happened. Randomly the call goes on hold (I think) and I hear nothing on my end and the person I am talking to hears the hold music on their end. I can't get them back on the line until I press my flash button. Is this a common problem? How can I stop this from happening? Thanks!

I have this same problem at times and it's very frustrating. My MJ is 2 years old although I just started using it full time 2 months ago. I'm using a dedicated Thin Client. Can't help with the problem but at least you know you're not alone.

Not sure if this will help but worth a shot
Make sure in your device manager USB section, in the USB root hub section, power management, uncheck allow the computer to turn off this device to save power. Do this for all USB Root Hubs.

Also you may want to try a POWERED USB hub and see if that helps..
