Headset works but cordless phones doesnt.

Post by sirzeek »

I just got this MJ like about 2 days ago. Being a huge skype person I fell in love with this. But after plugging in my phone, which is brand new out of da box! :D I tried to call my friend and it was like I was talkin to robot, and he couldnt hear me at all.....

I've been lurking through the forums for what seems like for ever. I followed everything from messing with my USB hubs to getting a new phone and also, switching computers. I downgraded.

I'm just speechless.. This is the thing that is killing me, my headset works like a charm, but yet my cordless phone doesnt wanna work at all. I hear the dialtone, but right when its starts to ring it gameover... sounds like im talkin to a robot, and to whom im talkin to said i sound like im a robot.

any help i would love. I would love to replace this with my skype.

It sounds like your phone is operating at 2.4ghz, which is the same frequency as your (presumed) wireless router.

You said you tried a different phone, but perhaps they were both 2.4ghz?

Try a corded phone, and see if that clears up the problem. If so, you need a cordless phone that is either DECT 6.0, 5.4ghz, etc.

Well, the reason I ended up buying this cordless phone was cause it was 5.8ghz. I also have a belkin router, and I changed the channel.. I guess I will haft to try the corded phone. If I haft to use corded phone im just going to switch back to using skype

It's not your 5.8ghz phone causing the problem.

You have some kind of other hardware/software configuration problem to deal with. I know that's not very helpful, though.

Thats what I was thinking too. I tried everything I could think of from software problems to regedit some of windows. I'm really stumped.

Thanks for the help.

To try to get to the root of the problem, do the following:

1. Plug your magicJack USB dongle directly into a USB port on your computer without using a USB hub or any other extender cable.

2. Restart your computer to make sure it is in a stable state.

3. For the purposes of troubleshooting and placing test calls, use a corded phone. Once you get up and running, you can reintroduce using a cordless phone but you need to remove it from the troubleshooting equation for now.

4. Right mouse click on the magicJack icon and select Volume/Headset control. Make sure the telephone "dot" selector is checked and set both the Speaker and Microphone settings to the middle most setting.
