MagicJack in China
I've been in Beijing the last 2 days, and I've been using my MagicJack (actually the hacked software that lets it run standalone) to call back to the United States. MagicJack is outstanding! Each call has gone through first time, and voice quality is superb -- as good or better than a landline call back to the U.S. I use the TJ echo reduction software, and have had no problem with echoes at all. And, of course, the calls are completely free! Best of all, people in the U.S. can call me in China by dialing a U.S. number -- no international charges to reach me.
As far as I'm concerned, MagicJack has paid for itself just in the last day of usage. I couldn't be more pleased.
Yay, MagicJack!

I used mine in Chile for 3 weeks. It worked perfectly. It was great to have a US number that would ring me anywhere in the world. And, the free calls.
I could have gotten the same thing with voipvoip, vbuzzer or skype. But, they are more expensive than a flat $20 per year. I don't know if they have voicemail, and if it emails you. That's a nice feature of MJ when you're traveling.

Echo on your side/far side or both?
Take a look at the WIKI for hints to improve your voice quality.
Good Luck

Check the wiki and search this forum for info about changing proxy servers. At least in my case, moving from the default MJ proxy got rid of the echo that I was suffering with for many months. You first need to figure out what your default proxy is (I find it easiest just running Wireshark and then starting up MJ & see where its connecting). Then you need to block access to that proxy and its associated vms through either the Windows routing table or your router's routing table. When MJ can't reach its default proxy, it'll find another which hopefully will clear up your echo.

I'm too stupid to know how to run WireShark. It's just too confusing for me.hsweiss wrote:Check the wiki and search this forum for info about changing proxy servers.
