Magickjack without Magickjack
I am interested in modifying a magicjack dongle to be used with my own VoIP servers, is this possible through hardware or software hacks?

Look in this forum post: http://www.phoneservicesupport.com/magi ... t8693.html
I would also suggest that you look at pbx in a flash instead of trixbox. Even though I wrote the original article to use trixbox it is not much different and is much more secure.

there is not a quick hack for what you are asking, if I understand your post correctly. You would like to take SIP info from another voip provider and put it on the magicjack device? To accomplish this you would need to need the tool set which would allow you to dump the nand chip from he magicjack device. Then you would need to write new firmware for he device configuring the device for the new voip provider account.

I also tried with pm.exe and got the correct user, but for password I got a weird response: ProxyUserPassword NOT changed; what does it mean?

Well... a few people state they have cracked the sip info out of MJ and set it to work on sip clients. I`ve used SIPDump.exe and been able to get the user.... but unable to get the password. And MagicJack_Utilitieswsip does not display the sipdump*.txt files that it should after being run. So I`m totally lost on configuring my MJ on my iphone.
We`ll be waiting for someone to post a solution to this issue.
Thanks

Yes - this is definitely possible.
You can easily use your magicJack with just about any SIP provider in the world using the Xlitejack plugin. It integrates the X-lite SIP dialer with your magicJack USB dongle and does NOT require you to have an active magicJack subscription. There is also a separate plugin available for Skype.
SETUP INSTRUCTIONS
1. Download and install the XlitejackPlugin.
2. Your magicJack MUST be plugged in and running as per the manufacturer's instructions.
3. The X-Lite SIP dialer (X-Lite Version 3.0 from http://www.counterpath.com/x-lite-download.html) MUST be installed and running. Eyebeam 1.5 is also supported.
4. Go to the Options/Devices/Headset section of the X-Lite dialer and make sure the Speaker and Microphone devices are set to "USB Internet Phone by TigerJet".
5. If you previously downloaded a different software dialer from the phone provider whose service you are planning to use the X-Lite dialer with (i.e. Gizmo5 dialer, VoIPBuster dialer, etc...) make sure their custom softphone dialer is not running on your computer.
6. Configure the X-Lite dialer settings for your account using the instructions provided by your phone service provider.
7. Sample X-Lite configurations for Gizmo5, Teliax, VoIPBuster and VoxOX can be found here http://www.pcphonesoft.com/xliteconfigurations.html
8. When the X-Lite SIP dialer is running, the XlitejackPlugin icon in the lower right hand corner of your screen will turn BLUE.
CALLING INSTRUCTIONS
X-LITE / SIP CALLING FROM YOUR PHONE KEYPAD
1. Dial # followed by the number you wish to call. For magicJack calls, dial as normal.
2. To call other user names/aliases, dial the Speed Dial number #1 to #50 you have associated with their user name/alias in the Speed Dial table.
3. To access the Speed Dial table, double click on the XlitejackPlugin icon.
4. For incoming calls, just answer your phone when it rings. The caller id name and number that is transmitted to the X-Lite dialer will be displayed on your phone.
X-LITE / SIP MANUAL CALLS
1. Dial # from your phone keypad to open the X-Lite dialer or double click on the X-Lite dialer icon.
2. Manually enter the number you wish to call directly using the X-Lite dialer itself and then press the green send key on the X-Lite dialer.
3. You will talk via your phone handset. When you are finished with the call just hang up your phone handset.

Thanks redpepper for all the instructions. But my main problem is not about configuring a SIP client; my main problem is getting my magicjack credentials. It`s been impossible to me up to now. I`d appreciate any suggestions.

Yes - that's correct. My response was to the original question in this thread relating to using the magicJack USB dongle with a different VoIP server (or a different VoIP provider).
In regards to using a different device with the magicJack network, there are a number of other threads and associated true experts in this forum on that particular subject.
