What MagicJack feature would you like to see added?
What MagicJack features would you like to see added? This poll is intended to cover what features MagicJack users desire. Please do not post about better call quality or reliability in this thread as I see those as technical problems that do not plague all users. Please add any features not covered in the poll. Please also post about the implantation and functionality of desired features for the MagicJack here.
Hi,
I find these two are already available. My MJ number forwards to a landline when the MJ isn't plugged in. Also I find the member-login and account info website easy enough to use.
* Call forwarding working without the MagicJack being plugged in
* Easy updating of account information online(changing account holders name, email, credit card info, ect.)
This would be nice, so I'll vote for this one.
* Three-way calling initiated by the MagicJack user(allowing to dial out to connect a three-way call)

Certainly not compelling evidence based on a sample of 39 users. What % of real live Walmart shopping customers ever visit or are even aware of the existence of this forum. I think is is rather self-aggrandizing for we forum members to consider ourselves as having any influence over the direction of Magicjack, with two major exceptions......it was through this board the ability to spoof caller-id became public and we also widely propagated information how to obtain SIP credentials to avoid use of the MJ dongle and softphone. Look where that got us!!!!!!!!!macman4hire wrote:At this point in time the most requested feature is for MagicJack is to allow you bring your own device(giving you sip credentials and support for an ATA). Added Features
I have not heard anyone mention what i would think is on the top of everyone list...
contact list/address book import/export utility.
A help and about that actually shows the current version and date of the soft phone application with an update feature that verifies the new version to already installed version so that it does not download an un-needed app if the installed version is the same as the upgrade.
conversation recorder
eliminate the task bar icon when app is minimized and only a small tray icon appears near the system clock..
am i alone on these ideas???

You simply missed the point crackerjack! I am under no delusions that this forum has any significant or persuasive powers in forming the corporate policies at MagicJack. You are correct that this forum is not representative of the average MagicJack user. I like many others was introduce to VoIP by my purchase of the MagicJack. I have since learned about VoIP technology and its plethora service providers. MagicJack inaction of not expanding its product and service offerings is subjugating itself to the insignificant disposable market segment. The problem with strategy is that it is not conducive towards long term growth sustainability. When all the Walmart customers have purchased the little magic box where will the revenue be derived from. I do not believe the revenue will come from advertising feature on the softphone because it is flawed. As you know anyone with a thin client or second computer can use the MagicJack and never see an ad! So why would advertisers pay for a form of unproven form of advertisement with such an inaccurate circulation rate. The only ads that I have seen displayed on the softphone are for MagicJack's international calling service. Obviously the demand to advertise on the MagicJack softphone is not there and may never be there. If I were Dan I would have my software team make the softphone time out every hour without user interaction to ensure that my much coveted ad space was being viewed by human eyes and not just an electrical current on wafer of sand. MagicJack must decide if it is a long term player or a passing trend exploiting a temporary market segment for a quick finical gain. The voip services arena is over crowed with both tiny upstarts and corporate giants looking to capture the voice communications market share. Telbo offers a calling plan for $12 a year by using there softphone. This not radically from MagicJack as you have to have your computer to place a call. Google Voice wants to gave everyone one number for life for free. Sipgate and IPKall also off free DID's. VoIP is entering into extremely competitive stage in its technology life cycle which will yield winners and losers. Only time will tell when and how MagicJack will be recorded on the ever evolving pages of time.crackerjack wrote:Certainly not compelling evidence based on a sample of 39 users. I would like to be able to sent my caller id to my local phone or number. People don't recognize my call and try to call me back, sometimes causing them to call long distance.

Need to be able to select a local telephone number to avoid my local callers being charged for long distance
Feature suggestion
I would like magicJack to work continuously and reliably. Right now incoming calls present a busy signal.

Sorry, neither will be forthcoming. BYOD eliminates too many eyes that can be sold to advertisers and Caller-ID Name inbound/outbound is beyong MJ's control. The only info that gets passed to the terminating carrier is the CID Number. Most big-time carriers use a database call to associate the Name to be displayed with the number on your handset display. Since MJ does not undertake the effort or expense to be part of this nationwide database, there is no name that matches your MJ number. Depending on the carrier at the destination, the name slot may say CALIF, unavailable, out-of-area, anonymous or just have the number repeated. YMMVsolearth wrote:"Bring your own device" is the top of the list. Having "Name" (incoming and outgoing) would also be very nice.
If the 2 features above were available, I would purchase several more numbers.
Voxox previously allowed "BYOD", but they changed their SIP passwords.
Conversely, for INCOMING, MJ is not willing to pay for the database access and no NAME is displayed on the handset. Odd occasions where an incoming number is already included in your local MJ phonebook you may get matching name info but this is purely serendipitous.
You may want to consider nettalk.com, which includes $100 lifetime voip service and their own ATA. Contact me prior to purchase about how to get a $12 rebate on the nettalk device.
Good Luck

You missed the one major feature that caused me to send mine back.
The ability to NOT have the interface popup whenever there is an incoming or outgoing call! I can dial my phone or answer it without interruption of my work in the machine. I'm sure this feature will never be added, since sticking the advertising in your face is a major reason for the popup.
Of the other feature they should have is the ability to work properly with Windows 7. You have to manually start MJ whenever you reboot or return from sleep mode. Recovering from sleep mode without restarting the device would be a huge plus, many other products have no issue doing this. I never tried it, but I suspect that recovery from sleep mode for other versions of Windows doesn't work either.
You get what you pay for certainly applies to this product! I'm going to pay more for a product that works properly...

You can use the free Magicsilence tool to take care of this issue at http://tools.pcphonesoft.com or http://www.magicsilence.com .You missed the one major feature that caused me to send mine back.

If it does not meet your needs for whatever reason, it does include an uninstall application.

It appears MagicJack has preempted that application. When you use it, the dialing on MJ ceases to work.redpepper wrote:You can use the free Magicsilence tool to take care of this issue at http://tools.pcphonesoft.com or http://www.magicsilence.com

And all that for $20 a YEAR!! Good luck with that, but if I can make a suggestion. I would not hold my breath as only Smurfs are blue.Satviewer2000 wrote:Anyone know if/when MJ will have a more advanced version of Voice Mail, which will include MULTIPLE mailboxes instead of just one? Joe Sica
When will multiple mailboxes be available in voice mail? Never ever and definitely not any sooner than that.
You can however use the free MagicRingForever tool at http://tools.pcphonesoft.com to keep voice mail from picking up.
Once that is in place, you can connect an external answering machine (or phone + answering machine combo) that has multiple mailboxes to your magicJack USB dongle.

Rollover between multiple MJ lines at MJ server.
This would allow us to use Magic Jack in an office setting with a telephone switch. Need main line, then rollover to each additional line if previous lines are busy. This must happen at MJ server. This would allow businesses to use multiple magic jacks on a telephone switch.
I predict this would result in a huge increase in your sales because offices would want many lines. I have an 11 employee business and I would want at least 8 lines. Multiple computers dedicated to Magic Jack lines would be much cheaper than my phone bills are currently with Verizon. This would be HUGE for Magic Jack.

Just get a free Gmail account. Then have your MJ voicemail sent to it. Then set up Gmail to auto-forward to as many emails as you like. I have mine set to forward to my email, my wifes and to send a text message both of our cell phones. Be sure to use filters so you don't get flooded with emails. You can have it set to only forward emails from MJ. In order to have it sent to our cells I just had to put my ten digit number @ vzwpix. com. Other cell carriers have similar extentions.Satviewer2000 wrote:Anyone know if/when MJ will have a more advanced version of Voice Mail, which will include MULTIPLE mailboxes instead of just one? Suggestions for Mac version
1 - Ability to turn call forwarding on/off without having to log in to the web site. Further, the main dialog should show the current setting.
2 - Don't start dialing until I press Return or click Send. Presently, if you type numbers too slowly, mJ will try to dial before you're done.
3 - Integration with the Mac's Address Book. Skype, for example, will show your Address Book's contacts, if you want. And, with an Address Book plug-in, I'd like to right-click a number and dial it with mJ.
4 - MagicJack dialing as a service. This would enable you to right-click a phone number anywhere in any application and dial it via mJ.
5 - Pop up the dialog to the front, or have an MJ icon in the top menu bar, to answer a call. If I have a number of windows open and receive a call, the "answer call" dialog may be buried behind a number of other application windows.
6 - Speaker and microphone settings on the main mJ dialog, so I can change them quickly without having to use the Menu button.

Okay, so I'll make a fresh thread.crackerjack wrote:You do realize the last post to this thread is nearly a year old?
Call forwarding to international calls
International call forwarding as long as you have credit on your account. It would be a great feature. For business users, and world travelers it would be a must have. Right now lingo, skype, vonage and others have this feature. And it should be an easy add on, just allow for more numbers to be added in the domestic call forwarding feature.
MagicJack WiFi Phone
I would like to see MagicJack market a WiFi Phone. One that is about the size of a cell phone and will connect to any WiFi for which you have the password.
Something similar to the Skype WiFi Phones.
