Not working with Windows Vista

Post by shardman1 »

I am trying to troubleshoot a friends MJ. They have an HP touchscreen computer running Vista Home Premium. When I plug the MJ in it opens a folder showing contents of usb dongle. There are not executable files and nothing runs. I tried the MJ on my XP machine and it works great. Tried the reformat and all the other "help" from the MJ site and nothing works. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello shardman1;

Just tossing out a guess, but it sounds like the Autoplay settings have been disabled or modified. I use XP Pro myself, however I recall seeing several Microsoft articles relating to to the Autoplay settings and Vista. Vista has more user defined control over the use of these settings than XP. You might check this article out as it explains how to enable the Autoplay function. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/wind ... y-settings

Hope this helps

I forgot to mention "welcome" to the forum!

There are some awesome folks lurking around in here for sure. When I first posted I was offered this tip from another user. It is a great one so I will pass it along! Make sure to utilize the "Search" feature really well before posting questions to the forum. Some in here may respond somewhat snappy when asked to respond to questions that have been answered many, many times before. Also, never take anything anyone says personally! :)

My fingers are crossed that it's a simple fix like tweaking the AP settings that can get your friends MJ up and running!

Good luck!

Actually Joe it was you whom passed that jewel O' a tip my way and it is mucho appreciado! Sure glad I did not receive the welcome the other side of that equation can come with, as I would never be able to look in the mirror again! :lol: Then again, it's nothing that some serious therapy wouldn't fix! :lol: :lol:

As you have mentioned many times, this is where reading the forum prior to joining paid off huge. Thanks again!
