Half A Conversation

I installed an MJ to test and only half the conversation works well. By that I mean I hear what they say very clearly but they get about half of what I say.
This is more pronounced when calling a mobile phone.

I get better results (but still not acceptable,) if I use a plain-jane analog handset rather than a 2.4Ghz cordless phone.

My web access is through a Microwave provider (I'm in the boonies no DSL no Cable.) Current speed tests show 1.5Mbps Down and .48Mbps up which should do the job.
System bits: XP Pro SP3, Pent IV 2.66Ghz, 1.25G RAM, 200gb free HDD space.

I'd suggest doing a search for "voip test" sites and check out how well your internet connection performs for simulated voip calls. Here's one site http://myvoipspeed.visualware.com/ and others will pop up in a search. Check out your overall score and your jitter.

Given that your callers can't hear you but you can hear them fine, I'm guessing it's a problem with your upload. It could be there is too much lag in the upload and parts of your conversation are lost. I found the same thing with satellite internet for a remote community. This was with a subscription based (i.e., professional grade) voip service and it was un-usable.

I've tried http://myvoipspeed.visualware.com/servers/smf.html which pretty much says I'm good to go but could be better.

I've also tried http://www.whichvoip.com/voip/speed_test/ppspeed.html which is a bit more comprehensive. It wasn't so happy about my connection and pretty much said I was good to get better.

Still studying the causes and remedies. What I don't want to do is leap at more bandwidth, for more $$, for a solution that involves just a little more research and twiddeling.

I assume MJ uses multiple proxy servers. Would it be worth my time to try out different proxy servers as a partial remedy? The idea being that every little bit (pun intended) helps.

This assumes I can change my proxy server and that's another topic I'll search for on the forum.
