Motorola router issue

when I talk on my magic jack on my computer plugged directly into the router in the living room, it disconnects my computer with wireless access in the bedroom. It didn't do it with my dsl router but i upgraded to charter 16 meg and it is just making me want to smash the Magic Jack!!!

Possibly an issue with wireless interference? Are you using a cordless phone that operated on the 2.4ghz frequency?

IT IS USING THAT!!! How could I fix it?

Try changing your router address or get a 5.8mhz or DECT cordless phone.

You can also try moving the phones base station further away from your computer by using an extention line (20' or so is good) from the MJ to your phones base unit.

Log into your router, go to the wireless setup page and change the channel the wireless operates on. Pick channel 1, 6, or 11 (assuming you have a b/g router) since those channels do not interfere with one another or anyone else. Or some cordless phones have a button to search for a new channel - if you do, punch that and see if the phone changes to a non-interfering channel.

Also my experience is that when either the router or phone is on auto select, things can get weird. My router had been set to operate on wireless channel 11 for a long time and I had no interference from any of my cordless phones. Just last week, my wireless connectivity was constantly dropping out to the point where I had to reboot the router. When I changed the router to another channel the problem went away.
