Dial tone on my Trimline 210 phone doesn't always come on

Post by Lilarose1941 »

I bought a Trimline 210 telephone for my MJ because my fancy ATT phone was over-programed and competed with Magic Jack for control of everything. I prefer that my messages go to my e-mail program (sound is great).

Anyway, lately when I go to call out on the MJ there is no dial tone on the phone. I have another phone in the bedroom and it does the same thing. So I end up rebooting my computer and that seems to help for a call or two. I have also tried taking out the "dongle" (isn't that the unit that plugs into the USB port?), I have tried to use it without the extension cord, etc.

Why don't I get the dial tone on my phone? It is MJ, not my phone.

Also, with a corded phone, would moving it away from the computer help with static as I read might help with cordless phones?

If your not getting a dialtone all the time or it takes awhile before you hear a dialtone you may need to cut down on the amount of processes your running on your computer. MJ uses a fair amount of resources on a computer and when there are other processes competing with MJ things like this can happen (personal experience). You can try a powered usb hub as this may help also try plugging your MJ on a usb port on the rear of your computer if your not already. Also try setting the process priority of MJ to high this has helped with computer related issues in the past. I use to this problem with MJ when I first started using it but quickly discovered an upgrade in my computers RAM and a good cleanup of my computer solved 99% of MJ's problems. Good Luck

Go to task manager hit Ctrl, Alt and Delete at the same time. A box will pop up click on processes. Look down the list and find magicjack.exe then right click on it. One of the options will be process priority click on that and set the priority to high. Another good place to start with MJ problems is the MJ wiki http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/MagicJack it has good info about MJ and common user problems.
