magic jack virus?
I have been using magic jack for a while. however the other day I noticed that when using the internet, I had no sound, computer was running slow and hot. Did a total reformat. Computer was fine. When I went to reinstall the magic jack, it started all over. Did a system restore to a point before I reinstalled the mj and it is fine. I wouldn't get sound through any site like hulu, youtube, etc but if I played something stored on realplayer etc it was fine. Can anyone give me some help on this? Is it a virus or what?
Are you running AVG Free?
I am about to post "CPU Resources Taken W MagicJack & AVG".
When I plug in the magic jack, I have to disable the AVG (Free) Cache Server, in order to keep CPU resources normal. This slows down AVG but is not dangerous.
So far, AVG Free forum folks say that the "I" drive is being mounted by the magicjack like 80 times a second. (in MY case it's the 'I' drive, thats the second YMAX USB drive installed when you plug the magicjack in.) I have the log files which show the activity.
To top it off, MagicJack recently made the two removable USB drives inaccessible. They now act like an empty CD/DVD drive with no disk after the magicjack program loads up. I read that it is something about a March 2010 update, Perhaps to keep us from tinkering? If the drive is disabled, why is it being mounted excessively???
I think magicjack has some loose ends to tidy up, because AVG Free reacts every time a file changes. My CPU on a Dell 46oo operating at 2.5 Ghz, with 1.5 gig mem, averages 60% reaching 90 % CPU usage, until i disable the Cache Server.
Good luck,
