SuperTalent Flash SSD SLC for HP t5700

Anybody ever use SuperTalent's flash drives on a HP t5700? I don't see any reason it wouldn't work other then maybe the ide connector is backwards, then worst case scenario would be I would need to get a short cable and mount the drive in the case.

I found these while seaching for some drives for my 2 5700's. I think they are mispriced since if you search for the same model number it comes back with 2 hits, one for $49 and one for $97. 5700's have a max flash size of 1GB if you use the stock HP image. Otherwise you will have to use a modified image or install full XP on it. If you do the latter, you will also need to istll the EWF filter so you don't kill the flash from disk writes.

Thanks for the info Alpman... I am currently trying to build my own embedded os using the windows embedded tools. I am not having a whole lot of luck as of yet. I can only get it to boot off a usb drive and then during the windows xp boot screen it reboots. So I have some more lear'n to do.

You can only boot from a USB drive if you have either SP2 Feature Pack 2007 or SP3 installed in Embedded Studio, and even then it is painfully slow to boot even with USB 2.0. You're better off transferring the image to the 4GB flash, which you can do using a 40 pin to 44 pin adapter and connect it to your desktop. It would also be much more economical to use a MicroDrive with a CF adapter instead of the 4GB flash, being that you are creating your own image anyway...

Problem is I just ordered the 4gb drives so I don't have them yet. I just download and installed Windows Embedded Studio 2009 from MSDN and working through the tutorials, so I am not sure of what I have or don't have yet.

That is true about the 1GB boot drive but he can do like I did and partition the 4GB into two partitions and install stock XPe on the 1GB c: and use the other as a d: drive. I have my microdrives setup that way and also have a 216X flash version using the same image, which works fine. I do leave the EWF on, even on my microdrives though.

I have a file that will allow you to install XPe on a drive larger than 1GB, I'm currently running a 2GB DOM in my thin client. It took me awhile to figure out how to do it but a very smart person on this site pointed me in the right direction.

Well, I finally got some time to play some more and found out that the connector on the Super Talents are on the opposite side and at least for my t5700's will require me to use a 44pin IDE extension cable, ie female on one end and male on the other.

Hello, Wondering if the female to male cable worked for you. I have a super talent sf8gb5f45 horizontal-2 and am concerned that a straight cable won't work. If I were to flip the flash disk around, its pin one would have to plug into pin 2 on the t5710. I'm not sure what the -2 designation means and their tech support can't tell me. An update is greatly appreciated.
