Dear friends,
I have purchased and installed MagicJack just yesterday and like it so far. I have only one problem with it:
If the other party on the line hangs up the phone, then my phone will not hang up. The MagicJack softphone will show that the call is finished, but my physical phone will continue to be on and I can hear silence from the phone speaker when this happens.
When I had a regular phone line, my phone some how was detecting the end of call initiated by the other party and was turning off (or going to standby mode). Now it just stays on, even though the MagicJack software shows that call is over. I have to press "end" on the phone every time to ensure that it is off.
My phone is a wireless system with 3 handsets. It is Uniden PowerMax 2.4 GHz system. The base of this phone is the only thing attached to the MagicJack.
The main concern for me is that my other family members may not press the "End" button on a handset if the other calling party ends the call. In this case my relatives will think that the call is over, but the phone handset will be powered on and draining battery. Furthermore, I think that it will also prevent any future incoming calls, unless all the handsets are in standby/hang up mode.
Please, help.
Physical phone will not hang up after other party ends call.

Strange. I have a 2-handset Uniden 2.4GHz and I always had to press the "End" button after the other party hung up first, even before I got the MJ. I'm not sure why you never had to do that before, but you'll probably need to re-train your family members at this point if you're keeping the MJ. I'm sorry I'm unable to offer a better solution.

Hm, this is indeed strange. I remember that phone was automatically hanging up.
Furthermore, I don't know how phone systems work here in the US, but in Ukraine, for example, the phone line is "shorted" for a split second after the other party ends the call. The "short" is initiated by the phone company hardware.
I've had an impression that this is how it functions here in the US as well. Correct me if I'm wrong.
Anyway, based on my assumption on how system works here, I thought that my phone is unable to auto hang up with MagicJack because MagicJack does not perform this aforementioned "shorting" of the line.
EDIT: My previous phone company here in the US was Qwest if this matters.

it might be a router issue, and I bet you have a linksys, like I did with continuos ringing after someone hung up...reflash it with Tomato, and no more rings, and better service too with no disconnected calls and such.....there are many other posts on this to explain all this even more here in the forum...happy reading
