Hi,
I'm able to setup my xlite softphone when I run MJM5.exe on a computer on my internal network.
Instead of leaving that computer on all the time is it possible to run MJM5.exe on a remote server that's running 24/7. It's a server that I host at a co-location.
I've tried entering the IP information of the remote server with the port number but I can't get it to work.

Short answer is yes it can be done; although there is the proverbial "but" to the situation.
First is your server needs to be directly connected to the internet and the permissions for the port(s) need to be set.
Second your listen port and forward port numbers can't be the same but it will work; how reliable it is? Not sure, due to security reasons I do not like to leave open ports and having machines directly to the NET just invites trouble for the not so good folks out there. If you are running xlite anyway just put the MJMD5 on that machine...

In that case if your server has a public IP and not behind a router on the DMZ port. Just set your permissions for 5070 and 5071 UDP. The Listen Port will be 5071 and Forward port will be 5070. MJMD5's proxy just enter the proxy server you want to connect to by IP address vs the name. It will save you from the DNS resolving headaches.
On your xlite where you enter your proxy server just enter in: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:5071. If my memory serves me correctly xlite may require the SIP User Agent Name entry in order for it to work correctly. Keep in mind that I have utilise the remote server method on ATAs; your mileage will vary...

I actually got it to work before reading your email. It works well. Found out I could use any ip address for the listening port so I used an high number to avoid any possible conflict. No Sip User Agent Name required for xlite. Now on to setting up my ATA.

Is there anyway you can give us some details as to how to go about doing this? What would be required if two different magic jacks (two different passwords) are pointed to the same router running the MJProxy? Is that even possible? What would happen if the Public IP address changes and could "DYNAMIC DNS" approach be used instead of specific IP address.Mr_Dasher wrote:Thanks again,

I have to admit that I did this really fast so I'm not sure if it's really done properly but it does work. I have two MJ's running off of one ip address. This ip address is an open public address and is not going through a router but I think that if the correct ports are open in the firewall that it would work.
Get your MJ password the usual way.
Since I have static ip addresses so I haven't tried using DNS addresses.
I'm using Linksys SPA2102
On a remote server I have two instances of MDMJ5 running and I put them in the startup folder in case the servers are rebooted.
1st MDMJ5 - Listen port: 5071 / Port forward: 5070 / Proxy: MJ#1 SIP address / Password: (yours)
2nd MDMJ5 - Listen port: 5072 Port / forward: 5070 / Proxy: MJ#2 SIP address / Password: (yours)
On the SPA2102:
MJ#1 Line#1 - SIP Port 60001 (I think this can be any port as long as it's open) / Proxy: (address of your server:5071) / User name; (MJ user name) / Password: (Your MJ password)
MJ#2 Line#2 - SIP Port 60002 (I think this can be any port as long as it's open) / Proxy: (address of your server:5072) / User name; (MJ user name) / Password: (Your MJ password).
Like I said I quickly set this up and once it was working I never bothered to tweak it so there my be steps that aren't needed but it's been running none stop without a single problem. It was good to be using an ATA again.
