Is it possible to hook up 2 phones to the MJ?

Hi,

I'm not sure where I'm going wrong on this, for the time being I'm attempting to hook up two phones to the mj. One is an old princess style wall phone, and the other one is a GE digital 6.0 phone/answering machine.

Both work when I make outgoing calls, however when an incoming call comes, the GE digital phone lights up (but does not ring) and after about 4 rings it goes to the MJ voice mail system.

If I unplug the princess phone then the GE phone rings, and answers after it's determined amount of rings.

I'm using a simple splitter at the MJ so that both phones can be plugged into the MJ, if I remove the princess phone the GE picks up the phone and records the incoming message.

Any clues if there is some sort of limitation on the amount of phones that can be plugged into a MJ using a simple splitter (splitter: One plug that plugs into MJ, and allows two phones to be plugged into the other end so that you can use either phone). I've not tried using a splitter on a regular phone line to see if it's an issue with the GE phone or not, since we no longer have regular phone service here, only the MJ and our cell phones.

If one of your phones is older and/or has mechanical bells, it may require more current than the MJ can provide.

You have a few choices:

-Get a powered usb hub
-Get a newer phone
-Stick to one phone

I have three Vtech phones connected at all times,on a house wired system that has worked for about two years now.

I run a cheap powered USB 2.0 hub connected to the PCs USB 1.1 port

My ISP seems to be the monkey wrench when it comes to problems with my MJ service.

Powered USB hub, was a total waste of money as it didn't do anything to...
1. Make either phone ring when they are both plugged into the MJ through a splitter.

2. Improve the problems that the digital 6.0 cordless phone suffers (people are still telling me that I'm dropping out or the line has too much static to hear me clearly).

However, when I get on the princess style wall phone they still tell me that I'm coming through crystal clear and so are they to me.

And yet, still neither phone will "ring" even when MJ is plugged into the powered hub, don't misunderstand, the digital cordless phone recognizes the incoming call as the face lights up with the callers ID information, just no ring when both phones are plugged into the MJ.

Now leading me to believe that there is some other issue that 2 phones can't be split from the magic jack in the method I'm using, or there is some issue with these two phones being plugged into the same jack using a splitter like what I'm doing. Since I don't have a regular phone service I can't test them on a regular phone jack unfortunately.

I don't know what a house wired system is, mine is simply the MJ plugged into the powered usb hub, which is plugged into my laptop usb port, and instead of plugging in just one telephone cord to the MJ, I've got a simple splitter plugged in and then two phone cords plugged into that which then go to the two phones.

Allright, I'm a total goober.

The princess wall phone was set to not ring. Doh! (must have flipped the switch on the side when it fell off the desk) Now the princess phone rings, however the digital cordless phone while recognizing the call (as seen on the face of it) just won't answer the call it just displays the caller ID information.

I guess that is just something that is not a MJ issue but rather an issue of perhaps this phone when there is another phone that it's split with maybe. I can't think of any other reason for it not to answer the call like it would if it were the only phone plugged into the MJ.

Unless somebody has some other ideas about this, I guess I'll have to rely on the MJ voice mail system to answer the calls instead and just remember to check my email for new voice mail when ever I'm away.
