Receiving faxes with voice mail activated

Post by MarkM »

Hi all. Just got my magic jack yesterday, and am trying to set up the fax. Outgoing no problem. However, my HP6310 used to be connected ahead of my answering machine. The machine would answer after 2 rings, and if the HP heard the incoming fax polling tones, it would pick up the fax. Now, I'm guessing the incoming fax tones aren't being heard by the HP after magic jack voicemail picks up the call, so the HP doesn't switch on to pick up the fax.

I'd really like to use the magic jack VM instead of going back to the old answering machine deal. Just wondering if this can be made to work.

Thanks in advance!

probably not, but hey for $30 [ebay] you buy another MJ and have a fax line with a separate number ... & set it to pickup on 2 rings.

Why didn't I think of that? It's still cheaper for a year than 2 months worth of land line service.

No good ... the ole "communication error" ...

good free test fax:
To test the send functionality of your fax machine, send a one-page fax to 1-888-877-1655 (a toll-free number in the United States.)

When it’s finished transmitting, point your web browser to Fax Toy : http://faxtoy.net/

There is also a HP free fax # you can try. 888-473-2963
I believe it sends you one back in return.

I just tried this, the transmission completed but nothing appears on the website.
