Hawking Broadband Booster Anyone?

Post by sirBB »

Anyone using the HBB1?, ....
Is it merely giving you the ability to set up QoS as one could also do with a router?, or is it truly 'boosting' bandwidth?
thanks, mike in fla

sirBB... I've been using the Hawking BBB for some time but frankly, I couldn't tell any difference. I still have it connected but it didn't seem to do much. FWIW, I'm using XP Home with Verizon FiOS, which replaced the DSL line originally using the Hawking box.

However, others swear by it, or they once did. Haven't seen much posted about it recently. Would like to get other opinions on the subject.

Thanks Darkman:
I gotta assume you installed the HBB1 when you had DSL from Verizon to QoS because you had some quality issue, yes?
And you didn't notice any improvement from the HBB1, so that's why you upgraded to FIOS?
(or... have you moved and FIOS wansn't available at your previous residence and it is where you are now living?...)
thanks, mike

I've been using the Hawking for a while now. I got it in a yard sale for $5. I have not noticed much difference while using mj since I did not have any problems with mj to begin with. But I can tell there is a difference while watching Hulu. Without it, picture kind of freezes very often. With it, there is barely a freeze. so I guess it works, but like everything, it depends on every user's setup. my mj is on TC with a powered Hub and connected to the internet via the Hawkings.

I got my first MJ as soon as I heard about the darn thing, which was February '08. There were lots of issues then, mostly stuttering and echo problems, so the Hawking BBB seemed like a good idea. Also, if I remember, I picked it up at Fry's for around $25. Since I never really unplugged it, I probably can't give it a fair review but even now when I'm on the MJ for a period of time, the person on the other end starts to complain about the echo.

It (MJ) really works best for the purpose I originally intended, i.e., calling into Webinars to listen, or for short outgoing calls, when I want to leave my cell phone available. Also, I really should move to a thin client.

I just installed Hawking Broadband Booster in my broadband last week. I see that it really works. My speed gets faster than I ever thought.

If one has a combo DSL Modem/Router can one use a Hawking Broadband Booster?? I ask because from what I have seen of it, it goes in between the router and modem.
I am using a Gigaset SE567/8 Series router/DSL modem.

I would surmise the only way to get it to work would be to use a switch between it and my combo?? Not sure. Or can I just put it between my combo and my Ethernet port on my PC??

I just hooked up my HBB1 and so far I can see an improvement. Web pages seem to load faster but I'm gonna give it a run for it's money tonight and see how it works. Amazon has some on sale for a little over $30.
