People cannot hear me after 2 - 20 mins on magic jack call

Post by magicjackserver »

Hello I'm having a very annoying issue were in the middle of call I become muted or cut off while I can hear the other user saying, Hello? Hello?

I have built a magic jack server using
XP Professional SP3 (fully updated)
PIII 700mhz
512Ram
New Vtech DECT6.0 phones. X3
USB ROOT with power saving disabled. (Device Manager)
No mouse or keyboard 100% Remote Desktop.
Windows Firewall active with magic Jack as only exemption. NO OTHER SOFTWARE BARE OS.
Automatic reboot daily 4 AM, Auto log on enabled.

Linksys Router WRT54G (Tomato Firmware )with QOS aiming at IP of Magic Jack Server. Wired via new Cat5e cable. (I have tried another router of less quality with no difference.)

There seems to be no method to it sometimes it take 10 minutes sometimes immediatley and sometimes not at all.

My suspicions are many, one of them being that the USB ports are 1.1 and I'm not sure weather I should purchase a new USB 2.0 PCI card, or a Powered USB hub. My preference is the PCI USB 2.0 Card.

Money is an issue and so are power outlets. So I'm heavily leaning toward the PCI card.

Just so you guys know the call quality is PERFECT even better than my land line. I just cant seem to figure out why the sometimes people can no longer hear me......

ANY INPUT is greatly suggested.

Sounds like you did everything correctly,MJ works OK on USB 1.1

I got a cheap 2.0 powered USB hub and can run 3 phones on house wires no problems for 2 yr now.

Look for any CD/DVD burner or USB drivers that might conflict with MJ.

If you still have problems I will help you with startup manager (startup.exe) and help you kill off stuff that might conflict, took me a few times to get it right.

I really hope that its a short bug with magic jack because I spent a lot of time and money getting this thing perfect for my mom and her elderly sisters and if they think its flaky or that its going to flake out in an emergency they will not want it. :(

I have found another post. I think they may have an issue brewing. I think outside of a Powered HUB and 1.1 instead of 2.0 everything else is perfect.

This may help http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/MagicJack/ ... oppy_Voice but you have the basics already covered. Try any of the fixes you have not tried yet. From there if things do not improve you may want to try changing the server your MJ connects to. A lot of the time it's not your setup but the server your MJ connects to is overloaded causing audio problems at different intervals into a call.

how to change servers. i read that somewhere else also.

Edit: i got the guide on wiki for it nevermind.

But I think i will go out and buy a SPA2102 and try that out first. If not then i will change the servers. If not then i will use the ata for my other voip service.

If anyone knows a good guide for SPA2102 plz provide it.

Those of us that use MJ with an ata find the audio better than using the dongle. With using my pap2 my calls sound better and I don't have the popping that occurs occasionally when I use the dongle. The guides for the pap2 should provide the needed settings to get MJ to work here's a good tutorial http://www.phoneservicesupport.com/how- ... t7593.html good luck.

To keep you guys posted I have disabled my firewall for my magic Jack PC. (Windows Firewall) There is nothing of value on it so I would imagine if it gets hacked the damage would be limited. Im also considering Comodo Firewall as a replacement.

So far since disabling the firewall. It does seem to have stabilized however, I have not been using it as often since its the weekend. I need to make sure its not software before I spring for a new PCI card or powered hub. My theory is that Windows Firewall is so crappy that it block packets at a certain point from leaving the PC. This could be the cause of my one sided conversations. LOL

I'm also looking into extending the time UDP ports are open on my router.

I have 180 assured and 30 un-replied, as defaults I doubt its either one of these settings.

Try using a closer proxy server. Boston or one from the northeast US might be a good server to try. It doesn't matter what server you connect to it can be any of them. Usually the closer the better to cut down on latency and jitter problems. Also QoS can help with audio problems.

MJ uses g711u. If you experiencing choppiness in your calls check and see if you are losing packets between you and MJ's servers. Ping a bunch of servers and see if there is any packet loss. Also try a couple of other servers being Memorial day weekend here in the states and everyone is off MJ's servers may be getting a little overloaded (this is just a wild guess).

my jitter is 80.1ms - 63.2ms lol says voip un supported and before it used to be close to radio quality according to http://www.whichvoip.com/voip/speed_test/ppspeed.html . so this was my main problem.

also says:
Jitter you ---> server 63.2ms
jitter server ---> you 6.3ms

What should i do?
What could be causing this?

Here's a good place to get a little more info about jitter problems http://www.dslreports.com/faq/13070 check your connections and make sure their tight. You could try and contact your isp and have them test out your line and other connections. If that doesn't solve it see if they have a different server you could connect to.

I had this problem too for a long time. It would either be that I would call someone and they could not hear me or after about 20 minutes on a call I would be able to hear the other person but they could not hear me. Somehow this problem disappeared on its own about 4 or 5 months ago. Although there was one time last week that I called someone but they could not hear me. I do have an AC powered USB hub that the majic jack is plugged into but I had that from the beginning when I used to have more problems.
