I have a Brother MFC-465CN all-in-one fax/copy/print/scan machine.
I've spoken to Brother personally, and have been told that by setting my compatibility mode to Basic, it runs the fax at 9600 baud, which I have found in the forums to be a common kps rate where people have indeed gotten their faxes to work.
But it still does not send or receive faxes. The magicjack pop-up box will always show "ready to call" (i.e., line not in use) after 45 seconds or so of trying to receive or transmit data. My issue seems to be the magicjack line itself giving up on the call.
There is no issue with the machine itself in those regards-- I have had my MJ for 2 months, the machine for 5 mo, and have tested it on both standard landlines and cable-modem-VOIP lines, never having a fax issue prior to MJ. Recently, I even used it with a 50' phone-line extension cord to send a fax off the neighbor's standard landline.
Any suggestions??
How do I fax from my MJ line???

Recieving a FAX works fine, But sending one is a different story. I couldnt get it to work no matter what I did.

FAX Solution
I just happened to see this post, and I thought you might want to review my solution about using the Magic Jack and a FAX machine if the other recommendations in this forum do not work for you. The direct URL to the forum post is http://www.phoneservicesupport.com/faxi ... t9330.html. To summarize, I found a low cost DID forwarding and SIP account provider (CallCentric.com) that allows you to use your Magic Jack and a FAX machine for 1 and 1/2 cents a minute. It is really cheap if you don't send and receive a lot of faxes. CallCentric has a minimum charge of a $1.95 per month for an account, but it is still relatively inexpensive. I found the FAX transmissions and receptions to be reliable for reasons explained in my post.
When your at the end of your rope, hang on.
I have a broth MFC490CW.
I have my fax setting to VOIP mode.
I use overseas mode sometimes if the fax doesn't work the 1st time.
Before you send the fax, press the hook button to make sure the machine is getting a dial tone.
If it is, then the fax should work.
As far as receiving, you need to make sure you have the correct receiving settings.
I have a telephone with answering machine hooked to my brother device and my receive setting is set to External TAD so that when someone calls the TAD picks up and if it is a fax, the machine takes over.
If NONE of that works, it's probably an issue with your internet speed.
