Can I use the original PAP2 Linksys with Magic Jack 4Gen?

Post by lousk »

I have the 'original' PAP2 but I am not sure if it can used with MJ, if so... how to start? I already had my MJ's credentials.
-Thank you for your time!

The answer is yes! Assuming that the PAP2 is unlocked, all you have to do is input your credentials into the PAP2 following the outline for the PAP2T-NA. If it fails to register, you will have to run the MJProxy on a Router or PC to make it work. Maybe you should try the MJ credentials on a soft phone like X-Lite to see if you need to have MJProxy running somewhere on your LAN.

Thank you so much for your reply!!!
I will try what you wrote and will post the result.
BTW, I am able to use x-lite, but I believe not without running MJMD5 in the backgroud. As far as MJproxy... sorry, I am not sure what to do with it.

Thank you!
I hate to bother you again.
I just looked at my PAP2. I do not know the history of it. I tried to find the ip address to login. I feel totally lost. As far as unlocking, I read that it matters if it was used with Vonage already or is still virgin.

Is there a way to tell without looking inside the firmware? Is thet a common ip address, or a way to reset?

btw, the power light is flashing (2quick flash on, then long off) repeatedly. The ethernet is steady, and both tel lights are off even with one telephone plugged in the port.

This is where it is so far.
I managed to hard reset the PAP2.
I am now able to get into the router with just the ip address.
Firmware Version: 3.1.9(LSc)
Don't know if it is okay to leave the ethernet in, or I should remove it.

What exactly is the model number of the unit? Where did you get this device from?

I would go ahead and enter the credentials into line 1 tab, following one of the guides for the PAP2T-NA.

From the little you posted it does not appear the unit is locked. Check under "INfo Tab, what does "Customization:" say? Is it "Open"?

You might need to do some more reading on this forum to get you where you need to be. All the info is here!!
